Hello.
My wife is 43, and during her last exam, her gyno detected something
suspicious in one of her ovaries. He ordered a blood test and a
transvaginal ultrasound examination. Now we have the results of the
blood test, and the CA125 score is 51 U/ml, but at the time of the blood
extraction my wife was on her menstruation period.
Is that level indicative of some possible malignancy, or can it be due
just to the menstruation?
Thanks for your responses.

CA125 is almost useless as a diagnostic on it's own, I'm afraid. You
need to see the ultrasound, and likely have an MRI, and I would't be
suprised if she doesn't end up having a laparoscopic exam anyway.

The answer seems to be "yes" according to
http://www.eyesontheprize.org/FAQ/tx/ca125.html and it can indicate other
types of cancers and inflammation.
The next step could be a Colposcopy (and biopsy) unless the gyno decides to
wait and redo both tests.
