Hi Everyone,
I recently had the lymph nodes around my lungs biopsied, and a lump
removed from the upper-lobe of my left lung (also biopsied). The
doctors were concerned that I had lung cancer, but the biopsies
revealed that what I had was a histoplasmosis infection. My surgeon
says that there is nothing else that I should concern myself with. He
says that my body's immune system will take care of the
histoplasmosis. I have some concerns, however. I would like to meet
with a doctor that specializes in histoplasmosis, or that is very much
experienced with this type of infection.
How does a person go about finding such a doctor? I mean, I'm sure I
could find a doctor that claims to know much about histoplasmosis, but
I would like to find a doctor that is on the cutting edge.
Thank you for your help and any suggestions.
Warm regards,
Randy Seys

You can consult an infectious disease specialist. I would be surprised
if the big hospitals in your state (Mayo Clinic and the ones affiliated
with the U of Minn.) don't have infectious disease specialists. You can
talk to your primary care physician about a consult.
Better yet, ask your primary care physician about what you need as far
as treatment, if any, and whether a consult would be helpful.
