New evidence for this effect has emerged from a study of 200 melanoma
patients in Athens, Greece, being published today in the New England
Journal of Medicine.

Researchers led by Dr. Helen Gogas of Laiko Hospital found that 52
patients who developed thyroiditis, vitiligo or other autoimmune diseases
after beginning interferon therapy for advanced melanoma were 50 times
more likely than the other patients to survive without relapse.
