A friend of mine here in Spain has just been diagnosed with colon
cancer. She has been recommended that she go to either Anderson or
Sloan Kettering. Could anybody make a specific recommendation? I'm
sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I'm afraid I really
don't have any sources of reliable information. Thanks!

What stage, Jay?
and/or is there a problem finding an experienced colorectal surgeon in
Spain?

They have found a 2cm long malignant tumor, but I'm afraid I don't know
a lot more. She always goes to the U.S. for medical treatment (as do
many Spaniards) as she feels she gets the best treatment there. What
I'm really looking for is to know who is really the top authority on
colon cancer in the U.S. Thanks very much.

Last report is that surgery is very likely. Thank you very much for the
help.

The correct treatment is surgery, and I'm sure that a good spanish surgeon
is as good as anyone from anywhere else

I don't know much about Anderson, but my good friend is currently
being treated at Sloan for stomach cancer. He has a difficult cancer
and feels good about being at Sloan. Sloan is a top facility; Dr. Shaw
is a young and very good oncologist in the gastric division of Sloan.
Oncologists at any cancer hospital have access the same treatments and
they tailor it to the individual. Sloan is a hospital that specializes
in each cancer and also has "non-approved" experimental drugs and
trials that can be attempted if "approved" therapy is
unresponsive. It's also a well-run facility with a nice environment.
That's no small thing. Wish you and your friend all the best!

Translation?: Cancer is incurable but since I'm going to die, I'd rather
spend the time in a luxurious hospital, rather than get my affairs in order
and maybe take a cruise, where all my needs will be met.
Staying permanently on a cruise is cheaper than long term care in an
assisted living facility. Cabin steward
will bring you meds, meals are prepared that are more frequent and higher
quality than in a nursing home, you see interesting places, etc. (or so I
hear)
Take a hospice nurse with him.
