Hi everyone,

Yesterday I saw a oncological radiologist who has done all sorts of
treatments over a fairly long period of time (20 years, at least) The
young MD Anderson trined IMRT doctor who has just moved to town
wandted a second opinin and the necessities of my insurance (or lack
therof) necisitated the second opininion first.

I have perinural invason in both biopsies - the one done in 2000, the
one done befiore sugery had peri-neural invasion. Same with the one
done last Nov at MD Anderson,

This person said two things:

a.) there is only one cancer, a rare salivary gland cancer that
travels in both directions on a nerve. It is the only one that does
this. Has anyone been told differently? If not, why do they take out
the nerve if it invaded?

b.) he said that with a PSA of 1.1 and a gleason of 4+3=7 that a "cure
would be highly likely - and he believed in external beam, not IMRT
although his company would prefer that he used it - to help pay for it
-  it's brand new.

The whole deal I need to decide is if he might be better than the IMRT
doctor, as this guy I saw yesterday is about a mile (5 min) from where
I live. The other guy is 20 minutes away  - an hour away during rush
hour.

So, anyone have comments suggestions, INFO on Ca traveling to the
spine in Cavernous nerve &/or the tissue around it?

Thanks guys ad gals.

Can't beat that deal at ANY price! AND I have a 30 year old car with only

Sundays. Want to buy that as well?

The web page at the link below won't answer your question, but it might
give you some helpful background information on perineural invasion.
It's something I came across several days ago and posted when the topic
of perineural invasion came up.   I think I can understand the
statistical language of multivariate regression they way they use it, so
was not put off by that part.   What I was more interested in, as are
you, I presume, was the issue of when/whether/how cancer can travel
along nerve tissue.
