Well I got stuck again. I had Surgery in 1999, and this is 2004. Losing
track of how long, and how many?
How many PSA's test ........I guess we are stuck with forever?
Anyway the blood letting lady was nice, and I hopefully get good results,
after all, what could a guy want?
I have many wants but 0.01 0r less is my want .
Wish you all the same, a friend, John Loomis

Hi, John....
I guess that no matter how many times we get stuck, we still have those tiny
*what if* thoughts in the back of our minds. I feel sure your PSA will be
undetectabla, as always..... but I know you'll breathe easier when you can
see that in black and white!
Thanks for being such an inspiration!
Take care,
MikeH

hi john - well i guess congrats are in order. why? because according
to my notes, we all have a 50% chance of a recurrance within the first 3
years which you have now past. the chances are more in your favor now.
in fact, they have moved up to 80% in your favor until the 5 year mark,
then goes up again. so, keep getting those low psa's and enjoy life.

What do you base your estimates on? The odds of recurrence depend
strongly on the details of the diagnosis, and in case of RP, on the post
surgical pathology. For example, for specimen confined, PSA < 10,
Gleason 6, the odds of PSA recurrence in 7 years are less than 5 percent.

hi leonard - i had these figures written down in my notes from years
past.
it is like the studies where they say it doesn't make any difference
which treatment you get, the chances are basically the same and then
quote numbers to support what they say.
we both know that the gleason, stage and psa number all factor into the
final outcome, but the numbers i had posted came from one of those
studies.
i'm quoting here
chances of cure -50% during first 3 yrs, 80% in first 5 yrs, and 99%
at15 year.
they went on to say that if you make it to the 10 year mark, that for
all practical purposes, it is in effect a cure.
i don't know how old my information is as it was in some notes that are
at least 4 years old and maybe ever older. and as you know, as new
information comes out, the numbers change.

You guys are all my friends. Regardless the outcome!
I take what I get.
Also the wives behind the men! They are the most precious.
If I missed anyone, such as men behind the men!
I give them all my blessing!
We are all part of this puzzle.
