I had the RRP August 1st. Lately I have noticed that I have some
symptoms that I had a couple years ago like feeling like I have to go and
when I do there is nothing there. Sometimes I have the feeling like I have
to go frequently. And, sometimes after I urinate I still feel like I have
to go. Sound familiar? Aren't those symptoms of BPH or prostatitis? Only,
I don't have a prostate ???
Another symptom I have noticed is that sometimes (nothing with this
seems to be constant) when I go it gives me a sensation that sends chills up
my spine. I do not want to call it painful urination, but it sure does have
a sensation that you cannot miss. No puss or blood or anything like that,
so I do not think I have a urinary tract infection. Finally, sometimes when
I go I really have to "push" to make a stream. Otherwise I am back to
peeing from my balls, i.e., it just drips out.
Any ideas? I do have an appointment with the uro this week (they set it
up ??) so I will ask then. If I have a scope procedure in my future, what
is that like? Do they knock you out for that (hope so)?
On the incontinence I have seen some improvement at work. When I get
home and start my second job, i.e., being on my feet and moving around, I
leak a lot. Standing/lifting/stooping etc. is very different from sitting
in front of the computer all day at work.
Keep up the good fight friends.
Thank you.

hi david - remember what i went through on all the postings about how i
scarred up and had to have the dilation done and then the TURP. well,
poor stream, the urgency (up to 16 times in a 2 hour period), the
feeling of not being done, the same feeling you had when you had BPH
and let's not forget the gotta go, gotta go feeling when it hits. if
all that sounds like what you got then what they did to me was cut the
lesions loose inside the bladder because that is what is pulling making
you feel like you got to go. made the cuts and remove some of the
scarring at the connective tissue and now i can dump my bladder in less
than 20 seconds.
i feel like better than i did before i had surgery as far as the stream
flow.
i suffered with it for 6 months before they got me straighten out. the
great news is that it's almost 100% curable. and as far as time frame,
i had my RP in april and they didn't get me straighten out until
october.
hope this info helps you.

Hi David,
I rarely have a feeling that I have to go except when I wake up in the
morning. No urgency, just a full bladder. The pain of the full
bladder is a little different than before and I've tried to quantify
it with little success. The difference is similar to rubbing your arm
with fine grit sandpaper and then with a coarser grit. As for the
painful sensation when urinating I too have that which I never had
before. It is fairly low level while urinating culminating in a surge
at the very end. I also have to give a small push to get things going
but everything empties nicely. My doc was concerned about the push
until I pointed out to him that if I'm to be continent without any
effort, then in order to go I have to apply some effort. He concluded
that as long as the stream is healthy everything is OK.
Hope all goes well with the doc visit.

I am undergoing radiation, not surgery, but I also have
the feeling that I have to urinate frequently, often when
there is little there.
The doctor told me that the bladder was inflamed by the
radiation and the urine irritated it - making it want to empty
itself - giving me the urge.
I don't know if that explanation has any significance for
RP patients, but it may be that other kinds of irritation in
the bladder can also have that kind of effect.

Sounds very familiar. The last few nights have been pretty unpleasant. My
RRP was December 11, and I've been continent since the catheter was removed
Dec 29. I have been noticing some of the same symptoms the past few days.
It has been worse at night; sometimes I have to sit up for 20 minutes before
I can urinate, like at 3am. I called my urologist this morning, and they saw
me right away. The urine sample I produced (slow pathetic stream) looked
normal, but they saw white cells under microscopic examination, which
suggests that I have an infection. The ultrasound after I had urinated
showed that I was able to empty my bladder to 10-20 ml, which apparently
ruled out scar tissue for the time being. They are having the specimen
cultured to determine what the most appropriate antibiotic should be. In the
mean time they have me on a broad-spectrum antibiotic (CiproXR 500mg). It
has been 10 hours since I took the first pill, and it appears that they are
on the right track. The stream is almost normal, though not up to race-horse
standards.
Bottom line: 1. Visible pus or turbidity is not necessarily a good indicator
of an infection. 2. When you have this problem, get help right away. I wish
I'd gone in last week. Oh well, we get too soon old and too late smart, as
they say.
