the above phrase, your name and address, and Two $1.00 bills. What you are
doing is creating a service.

remember, the more you post, the more money you make!! This is perfectly
legal!! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the
Postal Lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and whenever
you need money, you can use it again, and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this
program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the
participants and by their carefully adhering to directions. Look at it this
way. If you were of integrity, the program will continue and the money that
so many others have received will come your way.
> NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you,
> either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you.
> This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be
a good idea to wrap the TWO $1 bills in dark paper to reduce the risk of
mail theft). So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully
followed, all members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List
Developer with two dollars each. Your name will move up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be
receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only
$12.00 ( $2.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send it now,
add your own name to the list and you're in business!!!

Way to go!!!! These people are so Christ-like that if they wanted to, they
could be making all this money themselves. But, no! The try to help us
poor schmucks, and you want to report them for it.

I reply to the post and snip the info and put

somebody else does the reporting for alt.support.cancer
and I provided the following in addition

&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&scoring=d&selm=mf6Ib.91%24Oj3.29359141%40twister2.starban

claims of curing terminal cancer, so if anyone can find a way to
report them to any powers...
Now, about the filtering, some of our posters don't know how, or
filter me by mistake <g>
About the reporting, if they lose their ISP, they are likely to find
another, so we're hitting them both ways with the "filters messages"
I see she just posted again..

I think it's worth reporting these people, but it won't
stop them. They've already been reported a bunch
of times in their careers and either have successfully
forged their sending addresses, found an ISP that
doesn't care what they do, or have just resigned themselves
to changing ISPs every few days.
I wish our government would go after them for fraud
and prosecute them, but this is seen as too petty to
be worth the attention of the cops.
Surprisingly the technique used against Al Capone
would work against most of these people too. Most
of them get all their loot under the table and never pay
taxes on it. It is usually easy to prove that the thousands
of dollars they put in the bank (and it can run into
tens of thousands) didn't come from their low paid day
jobs doing whatever they do. Going after them for
tax evasion would allow the government to pay for its
investigations by seizing their bank accounts but, alas,
no one is interested.

ROFL!! I was just reading a post on the antivirus ng and the person said he
got 1,720 virus emails since last night......I certainly have noticed a lot
of them the past few days.
Alan......there is no such thing as 'catching them'. It is infected
computers belonging to people who don't keep their antivirus proggies up to
date that are spewing out most of them. And besides.....the authors don't
usually live in the US of A. Try France, Brazil, China, Taiwan and so on.
The two major virus writers that I know live in Brazil and France. It is
not just 'bad english' by script kiddies in the viruses......English is not
their first language. You can usually tell where the viruses are from by
the languages spoken. Besides......they use about 3 anonymous remailers to
post on the news groups......and there ain't no way you can crack those.
And Steve......don't give away any more of your mind than you can afford
to....LOL. We need your wry banter on here....

Heather,
I'm sure you're right about the virus writers. Most of them are
non-U.S. But apparently most of the spammers, the ones
peddling body part enhancement, "viagra" (or whatever is
actually in their pills), "an easy way to make money", etc.,
are good old American miscreants.
I still get about 30 viruses a day on this account. I use this
one for posting on the newsgroups and keep my ISP account
hidden. I like this one for newsgroups because Yahoo has
an outstanding spam filter but, unfortunately, they don't
automatically delete spam, they just throw it into a spam
folder which, if I don't clean it every day, will fill and block
my mailbox.
A previous email account I had was destroyed by a virus
writer. Some person who had me in their address book
got infected by a virus. The virus selected my address at
random as the return address for zillions of viruses that went
out. Soon various anti-spam, anti-virus sites put me on their
blacklists and mail that I sent out was bounced as coming
from a notorious virus sender.
My home machine is protected by a hardware router/firewall,
a software firewall on the computer, and an active anti-virus
program that checks all files and emails. The viruses couldn't
get me, but they still plastered my reputation.
Now as for Steve giving away pieces of his mind, he's a
pretty big guy with lots to give. In fact, I'd like to get the virus
writer who did in my old email account in a room with Steve
and let Steve give him pieces of a few other body parts as
well. :)

I had thought that chain letters were actually illegal. But
I've never heard of a prosecution for them in these Internet
scams.
I've often thought that the government could abolish 90%
of spam by using IRS whistleblower type rules. I believe
the IRS will pay a reward consisting of some percentage
of the penalties it collects from tax dodgers to any person
who provides the proof needed for successful prosecution.
Most spammers are violating the law now in lots of ways.
Some are producing chain letters like "Paris & Jess". Many
are violating the new law forbidding forged return addresses.
Many are offering fraudulent products or services. I bet
that most of the people like "Paris & Jess" (whose real name
might be Ossama bin Laden for all we know) are not paying
income taxes on any money they collect - which is easier
to prove than one might think.
If we just unleash some tech savvy lawyers and let them
file suits against these people in return for keeping a portion
of the fines and costs that are imposed when the miscreants
are convicted, we could create an industry overnight that
would crush these folks.
Well - just an idea.
