No spread to lymph nodes that were removed.  No positive margins.
Unexpectedly, my eyes started tearing up when I heard this.  I was
pretty sure it was ok, but I guess I had just encapsulated the worry.
Now just need to do the follow up PSA tests.

Also got the bill.  $49600.  Insurance paid all of it.

I.P.,

I don't have the Gleason yet.  I assume they'll mail that to me.

Also, I looked at this bill again, and the hospital is only ESTIMATING
what insurance will pay.  So, I'm sure there's lots of wiggle room
left for UHC to do the sideways shuffle on me.  I do know I'm on the
hook for 10% of the hospital room, and the hospital missed that.  But
that is only $500.  It was kinda nice having a private room though.

And, John, the new outlook on life began when I got diagnosed with
cancer.

Glad to hear your good news.

I am always impressed with  costs in health related matters in the USA
(and the cost of insurance to pay for it!).

"Impressed" doesn't fit my reaction to it! ;-)

Maybe another word with "pressed" on the end.

Congratulations on the good results so far.

These bills are phony for those with insurance.   If, like me,  you
are old enough for Medicare,  then Medicare decides how much the
procedures are worth, and that is usually significantly below the
"list price".  Medicare supplements use the same amounts to decide how
much they will pay beyond what Medicare paid.  For those too young for
medicare,  their insurance companies have usually negotiated rates
similar to the Medicare rates.

The only people who pay the outrageous list price are those without
insurance.   Usually they don't pay the full amount either because
doing so would bankrupt them,  so the medical providers agree to
accept much less.   They still pay a lot more than Medicare or
insurance companies.

Because of these phony prices, there is nothing resembling anything
like a free market in medicine, and the changes necessary to make it
such would so radically change things that they would be impossible to
implement.

I was somewhat surprised by that price tag.  I was expecting something
in the $25000 category.

I look with anticipation to see what the insurance company sends in
response.

Let's see now. Assuming a $ 1.2 M purchase price, a 4 year useful life,
4 patients a week (extremely conservative) depreciation would require $
1500 per patients at the most. Disposables? Let's assume $ 1000.
Hospital charges for 4 days $ 3200? How can anyone reasonably arrive at
$25 or $ 50K???? Are these guys listed on the NYSE?

No wonder that German hospitals are soliciting U.S. patients and
offering 5 star hotel treatment at 50% discounts to the U.S. price:

Note the free English newspapers and the Heidelberg tour.

Of course, as in Goofy's case, patients are liable to be unnecessarily
operated on. We'll soon know if he finds out his Gleason score.

Poor baby.  You really don't think you get the attention you deserve,
do you?

Where are you coming from?
I know I am wasting my breath but when I saw this I had to comment.
My God, if you don't have anything nice to say, nothing at all would be
best!
Best wishes to you, and "Hopefully" you never need surgery.....
who knows, "It may be uneccessary"
