Urine leakage during intercourse

Dwight - 29 Apr 2008 14:50 GMT How are people dealing with that? Or rather, how are their partners dealing with that?
Does it happen near orgasm, when the lower sphincter would normally release ejaculate? Or anytime?
Jim - 29 Apr 2008 16:16 GMT I've found leakage occurs at orgasm. Actually it's more like spurting than leaking. The only solution I've found is to empty the bladder before sex.

I figured that would be one fix, but I have to pee so frequently, and foreplay and sex can take a while sometimes. Well, I'll do what I have to do, if I run into it.
Jim - 29 Apr 2008 16:52 GMT Dwight, another approach might be to pee first, then use a condom. I asked my surgeon about this problem and he said it might go away with time but I'm not encouraged by that kind of response. Actually, I haven't talked to my wife about leakage. I still can't get an erection (three months post-prostatectomy) and found out about the problem during masturbation. It was quite a surprise to me! I wish you success Lud
I.P. Freely - 29 Apr 2008 20:08 GMT During orgasm, I very forcefully spray two to six ounces of urine, sometimes more -- depending on how hydrated I am and how long orgasm takes -- even if I void immediately before starting. My uros say it's a direct and unavoidable result of losing the bladder neck, IIRC, and it's not going to change. The only way to minimize it is to be dehydrated before sex and/or rush to orgasm, i.e., to produce less urine between voiding and orgasm. If I'm well hydrated and take a while to achieve orgasm, I often splatter urine all over the tub/shower enclosure. I couldn't possibly have sex in the bedroom. :-(

jloomis - 30 Apr 2008 18:51 GMT Hi Dwight. I am not sure why others are having trouble, but I had RP, 1999 Dr. Brooks. I do not have an incontinence problem, and have never had a problem with leakage during intercourse...... jloomis

By the way, regarding Brooks, I talked to a friend who had originally interviewed Brooks for doing his surgery, and as my friend asked more and more questions, Brooks recommended that he go to see Peter Carroll instead, the doctor I see tomorrow. Brooks felt Carroll was the superior surgeon.

Brooks felt Carroll was the > superior surgeon. What? Surgeons, especially top guys like Brooks, have egos to match and I can't understand him suggesting someone else might be better. Perhaps friend was turning into a pain in the a.s and Brooks wanted to palm him off onto to his "friend" Carroll. Also, Carroll is supposed to be really top-notch in reconstructive surgery for accident victims and repairing mistakes of others - so maybe there was another issue besides a simple prostatectomy.
I too interviewed Brooks and was startled to learn that at the time, 2003, he would inject my pre-surgery donated blood back into me to "top off" whatever I had lost in surgery. I thought he was joking since this is a complete no-no unless the blood is absolutely needed. I've heard he has since stopped this practice. Even the gurus come up short sometimes. Dave Perry
BH - 01 May 2008 03:34 GMT When I had RP in 1995, I did the autologous blood thing. At the time, it was supposed to reduce recovery time and avoid potential problems with transfusions of blood donated by someone else. It sounded reasonable. Does anyone know when this practice stopped, and why?
Thanks

I.P. Freely - 01 May 2008 05:27 GMT > Does anyone know when this practice stopped, and why? I don't know when, but my uro said self-donation makes no sense because the risk in transfusions these days is getting the wrong blood, not tainted blood, and self-donation does not reduce the odds of wrong blood. He added that significant blood loss is also rare these days.

jloomis - 01 May 2008 03:07 GMT Dr. Brooks is a very smart man, and has reasons for his decisions. Maybe your friend asked too many questions? don't know. I had a list of documented lab results with dates, and Dr.s visits, and listened mostly. At that stage of my diagnosis, and concerns, the questions were answered.....It was time for me to answer to his question. (do you want RP?) What I am trying to say is that sometimes many questions can cloud the air and give a Dr. reasons as to recommend another.......I don't know...... All I know is that I am a General Contractor, and I do not mind reasonable questions but when they get too many and overbearing.....I usually give.....

I'd expect a normally 100% dry man to be at minimum risk of leakage during sex while the occasional dribbler would leak a bit during foreplay and particularly orgasm - that's been my experience anyway, and with general continence improving over time a corresponding reduction in leaks. Now, at 18 months, an observably urine-less orgasm when masturbating. But fear not, urine is sterile, allegedly. Remind your partner that Ghandi purified his soul by quaffing his own. Not sure of the effect on the soul when quaffing someone eles's though.

It's a difficult thing to put your arms around at first. Research will tell you that urine is perfectly clean, but 55 years of experience seems to tell you it aint. It's sometimes very difficult for both the husband and the wife. And it's worse for those who have no capability of sex expect through oral sex.
I knew a woman who took care of her loved one without a second thought. He had no alternative and she loved him. That's all that was necessary.
My own experience was not so .... loving.
As to when, at first I couldn't even penetrate before leaking. But, most of it came with orgasm. The good news is it got better with time.

I sometimes just look at my wife with fiendish intent, and I squirt a bit, and that's 6 1/2 years after surgery! I have your solution for ya.... penis rings really work, and help keep it harder longer as well. First you foreplay until it gets up, and then quickly slap on a tight ring at the base. They're easy to google. We have a unique problem, my wife being latex allergic, but I've found silicone rings that are a regular part of our routine.
