Been an unwilling member of your club since last August.  Enjoy the
group and the great information.  Here's my info and question.

Age 64
PSA 07-10-03  6
Biopsy 08-14-03  16 cores  T1C GS 3+3 10% one core left side
PRP 10-14-03  Right nerve bundle spared
Post Op Path Report - GS 3+3  This lesion is seen as a small area in
the subapical portion of the gland (Wt 122 grams).  The proximal
urethral, bladder nect, seminal vesicle, and periprostatic soft tissue
margins are negative for involvement.  Focal perineural involvement is
noted.
First PSA test secheduled for 01-05-04

Question for the group, good path report with a big maybe.  Focal
perineural involvement?  Doc say's possible escape route but no reason
to believe that the cancer is not contained.  Any info that the group
can share?

Same info my Dr. gave me.  I try not to get too involved in all the
technical information  and let my Dr. tell me what's bad and what's
good.  I guess I'm more interested in the report being really mine or
did they get it mixed up with another Dale J.  It does happen sometimes
although not to me so far.  When I get my PSA tested I make sure they
have several verification points, such as S.S., birth date, street
address, P. number, middle name.  Quiz them make sure that it's really
your record.

Dr. Walshes book touched on perineural invasion, P. 145.  You had neg
margins so that's the good news and regardless of the perineural
invasion it was contained.  It sounds like you're good to go Jerry.

Jerry, sorry about having to join the club.  As for your Path Report,
it looks real good to me.  The perineural involvement is common and
the least serious of all the "bad" things that can occur.  In fact,
two doctors told me it is of little consequence - they see it all the
time.  You're doc's comments are right on.  I suspect you'll get a
good PSA and many more to come.
Happy holidays,
Dave Perry

Welcome to the NG, Jerry.

Your doctor's statement about says it all.  It may or may not have escaped.
The good news is with a Gleason of 6 and age 64, you're in a pretty company
as far as odds are.  You'll probably have a PSA every 3 months and no news
is good news.
