the catheter came out today. so did all bladder control. it came out at
2pm ad it's now 1030pm and i've yet to urinate in a bowl. it seems to be
ALL leaking out. i cant even count how many pads i've used since this
afternoon. i called the urologist on call and she said it might take
some time. but this is a little too much. should the catheter have
stayed in beyond a week? this is rough. i've been doing kegel's for 6-8
weeks with my exercise class even before i knew about my pca.
help please...
and about the pathology report... i just don't know. it didn't sound too
good. positive margins .25cm in length. the doctor will talk to me
tomorrow as he was in surgery today. i'll get better but was just hoping
for better time of it. greg

greg,
it does get better...i had the same experience when the cath came out
and I remember worrying that it should have stayed in longer (mine was in 9
days). i was in an absolute panic for about 4-5 days..totally no control. it
got better. I'm 6 months out of surgery and able to get by with one light
pad a day. you will make it. best to you

thanks for the info. and thanks to those who i have emailed directly in
the middle of the night. there is control while laying down. i'll see is
there is any while sitting or walking or getting up. if i could find the
right diapers to wear during the day ( i'll go through a 100 of those
liners) that (the small size fits king cong) actually fit then maybe
i'll be able to leave the house. the panic is over, greg

Greg,
i got by with Depends ultra in size small...I went through about 4-5 a
day for the first 3 or 4 months after surgery, then things started getting
better...

The lack of control in urination is normal. You need Depends pull up
briefs, not pads. Pads come later.
And, as recently mentioned here, postive margins don't mean, necessarily,
that the cancer has spread.
Wait until you see your doc before you consider it bad news.

Greg,
Keep the catheter in longer? That would have nothing to do with
whether or not you can hold water when the catheter is removed.
Just do the Kegels (but don't overdo it) and the muscles will be
strong enough to stop some of the flow in a week or two. This is all
normal.

We hear mostly good reports here. Not everyone gains control so soon.
I wore full Depend briefs for four months before I was able to switch to
Depend for Men pads and then another six months before I felt secure
without one.
