My Erection Story

I posted a few days ago about my first fully hard natural erection and one
of the congratulatory replies ask for a progressive story, so here
goes....I'll keep it short (or did the surgeon do that?)

I was 50 years old when first diagnosed with PCa and after several weeks of
research I chose surgery.  My Uro made no false promises about return of
natural erections, indeed he said it probably would never happen and then
went on to describe the various aids that can be used.  I should tell you
the cancer was confined and prognosis is good, my numbers a way down.

At first there was no activity whatsoever and my Uro immediately started me
on Viagra with no success.  Then came the needles and I never could seem to
master that art of injecting.  When I managed it I would have a boner that
would last for four painful hours.  I then bought a pump but even with two
rings I could not maintain an erection suitable for intercourse.  What I did
do every night (or second night) was to use the pump as exercise without
using the rings, just pump it up and let it go down again for about ten
minutes per night.

My first erection during sleep came at 8 months post RP whilst on vacation
but by the time I rolled over a woke my wife it had gone.  This was the
start of at least 5 night sleep erections per week and I still get them but
generally if I role over "into position" they disappear.  I had several
prescriptions filled of Viagra over the months all with the same dismal
result.  Then Ciallis was released in Australia about six or seven months
ago and from my first dose I knew I was onto something.  Not so immediate
but over a three day period I would get hard erection suitable for
penetration and without the blue haze and stuffy nose.  I then noticed I
seemed to be getting semi hard erections at all the usual times that us
males generally get a bit of a woody.  This has gone on for about three
months and there has been a few "loveable moments" in the past three months
where it has responded very nicely but generally goes away before I can get
into position, but generally I have been happy that I have been getting
erections again at the right time and for the right reasons.  Last Saturday
night was one of those moments but instead of losing the erection as I got
into position in stayed hard and the rest is history as they say.  Do I miss
the ejaculation is your next question, no not at all, my orgasms are just as
intense although I am premature and I am going to have to learn control all
over again.

It's funny writing about this stuff but I really do hope that it may help
other men understand what is happening with the healing process and provide
hope for those men who just feel as though they want to give up.

hi aw - wonderful story.  you don't how many men here have said the same
phrase.  i can't believe i'm discussing my sex life on the net.  but it
does help others.  i've often wondered just how many lurkers are out
there that read our words and want to say some thing but won't jump in.

i was very fortunate in that i had a usable erection one month after
surgery.  now, i guess what makes me a little more special is that we
have had men in the 40's recover that fast from surgery, but not too
many in the later 50's.   and i agree that the pump had a lot to with
it.

Since we are here to help each other, here is a comment for anyone
contemplating using a pump.

My pump came with 8 rings ranging from very large to small.  The
larger ones would not maintain an erection and one that is too small
is uncomfortable to say the least.

Getting a pump with only 2 rings is like receiving 2 pairs of shoes of
2 different sizes and expecting one of these to be the right fit.

It is such an important thing that I thought it worth mentioning.

I echo your sentiments.

The rings have nothing to do with the size of your penis.   It is all a
matter of applying enough tension to keep the blood in the penis without
making you too uncomfortable.   My pump was made by Timm and came with
six rings, two each of three different diameters.   Each pair had one
more flexible and one less flexible ring.    You can also use
combinations of two rings.  I was having some trouble trying to figure
out which ring worked best, so I called Timm's 800 number.   It turned
out they had yet another ring, which worked out just right for me.

I think some men may give up too early.  It certainly can be frustrating
dealing with the pump and the rings while you are having doubts about
whether you will ever be able to have penetrating normal sex.  But a
spirit of experimentation and talking about it with your partner can
help quite a lot.   In our case, we managed with a pump for some 18
months until I started get erections with Viagra and sometimes without.
We could have gone on that way indefinitely.

My experience has been that viagra had an effect but was barely usable.  The
cialis is a different story.  10 mg of the stuff still leaves me capable
and functional at least 24 hours later.  Spontaneous night-time woodies as
well.

I'm just 61 a few days ago.  The prostectomy was november 2002.  'Nerve
sparing' procedure.  Health otherwise OK for a guy my age.

My 2 cents.

John.
