"Conclusions: The addition of 6 months of AST (androgen suppression
therapy aka ADT) to RT resulted in increased overall survival in men
with localized but unfavorable-risk prostate cancer. This result may
pertain only to men without moderate or severe comorbidity, but this
requires further assessment in a clinical trial specifically designed to
assess this interaction."

It appears that some scientific consensus is building around this
conclusion. I found studies indicating the same thing before my
own treatment in 2003, and a number have been published since
then. However I've also seen one or two that claimed no benefit.
The issue is clouded by the fact that there are a number of
different forms of radiation. It is conceivable to me that ADT
is of more benefit to men getting EBRT than brachytherapy, or
photons vs. protons, or who knows what.
However, I think if I were being treated again today, in spite of
what I now know of the nasty side effects of ADT, unless I had
heart disease, I think I'd opt for it again.
