I believe the dialog in this last post is a shinning example of some of the
problems we have in getting our points across on this subject. Too many
have lost sight of the purpose of the forum and that of being a support
forum.
It appears that some have lost their ability to understand English
comprehension in its most basic form; Purpose-Body-Conclusion. I believe
most people that post on here usually follow this form for the most part.
However, some posters because of either there academic background or
narcissistic behavior, choose to carefully critique everything that is
posted for it accuracy, content and relevance to the point of absurdity.
They completely overlook the purpose of the article and because of that
many of there observations are erroneous because they don't relate to the
posters intended purpose. They appear to have a vary narrow focus towards
any comments made. They take out of context. They read into the intent of
the poster often incorrectly. Probably the greatest grievance is some
won't even allow there believes to be challenged for clarity sake. These
exchanges never rise to the level of intellectual discourse for some on
this forum. They seem to revel in antagonistic discourse.
This original forum topic was hijacked and then started to spin out of
control. I've often felt when someone dissected a posting line by line or
paragraph by paragraph or word for word they lost sight of the purpose of
the post. It can cause the average person that might want to contribute to
have second thoughts. It is similar to one not running for a political
office because of the extreme scrutiny one must go through. I'm not
against respectable challenges or debate. I am against disrespectful
attacks and opinions that are not backed up by facts and micro filtering
all postings.
We all come from various backgrounds with various levels of education and
other accomplishments and even some physical handicaps that can effect how
we research and present our posts. One shouldn't feel so threatened by this
continuous badgering or examination of the most trivial detail to cause one
to refrain from future post. In the end it will only leave just a few
posters and all there biases to prevail and we then miss out on the broad
base that has made this forum so strong up to this point.

THANKS!!! I am glad that the focus of the group is paramount in other's
perspective. I really like the support that members have expressed by their
answering questions that I have had. As a newbie, I may be short on group
dynamics, but I appreciate free expression and dialog when it serves the
purpose of support. I suppose individual anger may be needed to be vented
and I will support that and may even see it as a support function of the
group. When that anger gives rise to another's pain, that anger needs to be
curbed. Again as a newbie, I may not be as literate and versed in online
discourse, so please forgive me for my written confusions.
On a more positive note, I hope all that read this can have a healthful and
productive 2008!

Very well said, Ron.
We all understand that detailed references are often required when a
specific bit of data may influence a treatment decision, but using
citations or lack thereof as a dagger says more about the stabber than
about the stabbee, and certainly must repel a few lurkers or newbies
with no upside.

HEAR, HEAR!!!!!!! Well stated my Friend. I thought enough of the post to
send it on to my 34 year old son for him to read. Especially since his
Grandfather died from colon cancer.
(Must have been some humdinger of a narcistist response to Califchief's
.........)

This would have been a great New Years Day post, Ron. Then we could all
have consensus on a New Years Resolution -- to get this runaway train back
on its tracks.
