A guy with probably all the resources to get the best treatment in the
world succumbs to this damned bastard....it really makes you think. 56
years old dying from the "old man's disease". How sad.

I loved the "sermon" on his website urging guys to get tested well
before 50. I was 49 when I was diagnosed and even though it didn't
show in my PSA (and even though it has recurred), I urge everyone I
can to get the PSA and DRE starting at 40 (at least). That's the
message that we all need to get out because the best way to beat this
disease is to stop it early. We all know that.
It breaks my heart when I hear of anyone dying of prostate cancer and
especially popular public figures, but the awareness their popularity
brings is a wonderful legacy.

Thanks for asking. It's going well. The 4 hour round trip every day
doesn't help, especially since I'm still trying to work. Starting to
get some bladder spasms but otherwise okay.

Good to hear that.

Judging from many of the stories I have heard hear, a man's primary
physician or urologist often trumps all other mortality criteria; including
financial resources. Then, PSA, Gleason, and Stage still play a bigger part
than financial resourses. Especially in CA, UK, and AU where medical
treatment is free. ;-)

Fifty-six is certainly young statistically, but I like to think that the
sadness should be relative to what the person has accomplished in the years
he had on Earth. I would think that most would think that Fogelberg
accomplished a lot in his young years and perhaps died without regret. I
dunno. I don't know him well enough.
By comparison, all political considerations aside, Ronald Reagan's death at
56, would surely have been sad. His life would have consisted of being a B
Movie actor, union head, and show host. I think he was elected governor at
56.

All the resources in the world won't overcome either the fear of
having a disease or the false sense of one thinking he's invinsible
(not that either of these apply directly to Fogelberg).
For me it was a no brainer, my Dad, his brother, both my Grandfathers
all had or have it. Sure enough I carried on the tradition. Yet to
this day, my brother refuses to get tested. Sad and pathetic all
wrapped into one....

Paul,
Why don't you give us his email and we'll all tell him what a damned fool he
is. :-)

I've called him far worse, "selfish prick" being my leadoff hitter.

So I guess by the time he was INITIALLY diagnosed in 2004 it was too
late. That is a
damn shame. I mean, did he ever go to a doctor before that for any
type of checkup?
Tell you the truth when I read the article and saw pc and DEAD at 56
it freaked me out
but when i took a deep breath I knew there had to be more than just
"PC and dead at 56".

According to his website, he was not diagnosed until he had advanced
prostate cancer.

If any of you would like to share in the greatness of Dan's words & music,
or perhaps are too young or old to know who he was... check this out. It
really paints a picture for me....
