When surgery fails as a primary treatment fails, with the current
state of the art, you get exactly one more shot at curative
treatment - salvage radiation.
It's very encouraging to hear from someone for whom that one shot
appears to have hit the mark.
Congratulations.

Great news!
I've just had a recurrence 5 years post-RP and seeing the radiation
oncologist on Monday to discuss SRT, so this is music to my ears.
You made my day, buddy!
All the best....

Well I'll add my congrats' ...... I also check in daily to follow the
ongoing personal dramas and public discussions. I had my RP in late
2003 ( low grade, organ confined ) and have a PSA bouncing between .1 an
.2 for the last year or so. My uro finally said enough is enough. Had
the standard CT scan and the new ProstaScint scan re:
http://diagnosis.prostate-help.org/pcprosc.htm for more info. Both came
back negative.
So I start my IMRT this coming Monday for 40 visits. I can only pray
that my outcome is as good as yours. Lookout Buck Rodgers ,here I come!

I am hoping that a cure and/or better drug is soon on its way to
destroy PCa for good.

Hey, JimBob! Good to see you back... even if it's with slightly tainted
news. Your last report, I think, was March 2005 and your PSA was 0.2. If
it's been bouncing lower than that for 2½ years, I wouldn't be at all
surprised to see that IMRT delivers a knock-out punch.
Keep in touch!

Ahhhhh , so nice to be remembered . I only wish the other NG's I
participate in could be as caring , understanding and
non-confrontational ( usually ) as "ascp" . This little virtual round
table is so special ..... much thanks to everyone involved !

My onc told me just yesterday that pursuant to the NCCN symposium
( http://www.nccn.org/professionals/meetings/eventinfo.asp?EventID=88 )
he attended last week he's preparing to publish a paper explaining two
distinctly different protocols for SRT in pts with PSAs around 0.5 after
RP "failure".
For low-risk cases -- Gleason 6, no SVI, negative margins -- pts often
sit at 0.5 for many years with no need or recommendation for further
treatment. For high risk cases -- Gleason 8 *or* SVI *or* positive
margins -- pts very often progress to full recurrence and should be
treated with SRT at about 0.6.
Nowhere is a "piddling little PSA" of 0.2 mentioned in that.

Well that just shows you how much attention I was paying when I wrote my
OP. Frankly I am a little stressed with this whole thing , so what hits
the virtual paper is not the same as what was in my "virtual" brain. As
I originally wrote "I had a a PSA bouncing between .1 an .2 for the last
year or so" . What I failed to remember to add ( happening a lot lately
) was that the last bounce in Oct. was to .6 .... duh !!!
Yeah , one could ask how I could forget THAT ! Well , about 11 years
ago ( I was 50 at the time ) I did one of those stupit' people tricks
and attempted to see how many freshly painted steps I could jump over in
an attempt to get back down into my basement ( I was never known for
patience , the lack of same always displaced smarts ).
Well, it was 2 steps cause when I hit the edge of of the third painted
step I shot off like a rocket and the rest is history as they say. I
ended up with a bad neck and some brain stem damage that resulted in
chronic tinnitus and a nasty sleep disorder. So the purpose of all this
blithering is just to explain how one normally sane person after not
sleeping much for a couple days just might forget to mention a minor
detail like the tripling of his PSA over a 3 month period.
Well , I feel better now ..... this should also explain my "sig" !
"Why are my pants on inside out" ?

Sorry for the end result, but your post did make me laugh.....
I did the same sort of thing as a kid and busted my collar bone. You
see, I thought I was Peter Pan and could *fly* down 2 flights of stairs
to the basement. NOT!!
Bounced off the door and broke a bone, but not the glass bottles I was
holding in each hand. I was about 4 I think. NOT 50!! LOL!!
Cheers.....Mistress of the Sr. Moment these days.

Good , I still try to have a sense of humor about it all.

Worst part for me was I remember standing there thinking that I really
shouldn't try it. But my inner child insisted and ........ *^(*^^&$%#

If I would of bounced I think I would have been better off !

That sounds more like a teenager moment, not a Sr. Moment, except that a
teenager would have pulled it off. Thanks for reaffirming my conscious
decisions not to attempt stuff quit like that any more. Close, but not
that bad.
Let me guess ... you were known as James or Robert BEFORE this happened.

Half right I.P. , actually it is James and I've always been called Jim.
In my very early years I was raised riding horses and chasing cows in
the Southwest then as a teenager moved to the Northeast . In later
years some of my friends started calling me JB. One day a person asked
what JB stood for and a friend who new about my past replied JimBob and
it just sorta stuck. I only use it as a username these days however.
Interestingly enough though my Father's name was Robert !
