hi folks - came across an article addressing this subject.  here's the
low down on cranberry juice.

cranberry juice prevents one of the common bladder infection germs from
sticking to the bladder wall, and that appears to lessen bladder
infections.

not all authorities subscribe to cranberry juice's disinfectant power.

Hi Curtis, Everyone,

I tried Cranberry juice and extract (Cranactin in my case) during the last
two weeks of my radiation (had and infection and ever increasing blockage)
and I believe it did help.  I found that the quantity of juice and extract
(6 pills of 400 mg extract three times a day and 50 to 60 ounces of juice
daily) needed to be high to really notice the benefits.  I ended up getting
a round of Cipro after a catheter which would have cleared it up for good
right after I ended my treatments.  I actually think I probably did not need
it for any infection but took it JIC because of the catheter being put in.

I still take extra C, E, Cranberry and Pom juice if I think I am having a
problem.  I did this after I had the blockage removed three weeks ago and
never got an infection.  I did not take any Antibiotics either.  This could
also just be that the old bod is getting better at fighting off problems
again though.

This area of the country is called the "stone belt" because the
incidence of kidney stones is much higher than other areas.  One thing they
blame that on, according to the prevalent lore, is that people drink so much
iced tea.  Who knows, maybe it is the water.  In any case one thing we have
been told is to drink cranberry juice to offset the risk of developing
kidney stones.  I drink it because I like it.  Apparently it did not help
with PCa, or gall bladder disease for that matter.
Ho Ho Ho - you heard it here first....
   Thank you.

Cranberry juice with vodka is a great drink and keeps the kidneys and
bladder working full time, esp at night but so far no infection.
