I am 10 days post robotic radical nerve sparing prostatectomy and would like
some information regarding potency issues.

I notice a 40% erectile responce after mild self stimulation. Is this too
early to experiment and/or expect an erectile responce?

Is it too early to consider use of a penis pump and or medications to
stimulate erectile function?

In general, do the above questions lead to the indication that I am too
impatient and that I should wait before even considering dealing with this
concern?

As always, the information from group members is greatly appreciated!

From what I've read and heard you should allow the body recovery time
of up to a few weeks.

At least one study suggests a regimen of daily viagra will accelerate
rehab. UPMC says that response to viagra is favorable if both nerves
have been spared, but not effective if that is not the case. Your "40%"
response (presumably without medicine) would appear to indicate that you
are on the right track!

Apart from the recovery time issue and unless your urologist put you on
a temporary restraining order, I don't think you have reason to wait.

I've heard that too.  But this is something you might want to ask
your surgeon.

There is a similar study of the pump which also reported good results.
I posted a reference to it recently on this group.  In the study, the
patients began using it 30 days after surgery.

When I was going through RPP, my doc said not for 6 weeks at least.  But,
some docs are different.  I remember one who recommended beginning before
surgery.  I think that was to get more capillaries growing before the
'insult'.

I don't think there is a gold standard on this one.

Peter,

My story:

I was on Viagra for two weeks post op. After that, I was on nothing
and not "exercising" the organ. I was more dedicated to healing up and
my Kegels. At about two months, I felt well enough to want to get back
in the game, but I had no game to speak of....

I went and saw a Uro I affectionately have dubbed the "Penis Guru",
because of his wealth of knowledge specific to the organ and all of
its functions. He examined me, ran tests and gave me a Trimix
injection and I responded like the Space Shuttle.

I walked out with a script for Cialis 20Mg which I take once a week
and at four months post op, I am fully functional as required. I
strive to get off it altogether, but am uncertain as to how long that
will be.

I believe you should consult with your Dr. if you are looking to get
going 10 days post op.

From my limited experience of one, if you can get a 40% erection 10 days
after surgery, you will achieve near 100% function in a few months. Also if
you can get a 40% erection with mild stimulation now, you don't need any
chemical or mechanical aids. Whatever effect these aids may have is being
accomplished by your own hand. Keep it up ;-)

You're way ahead of the curve Peter. Keep practicing, and you'll see
steady progress.

Hello, Peter:

10 days after and you're getting a little wood?!  That's great!  Tell your
doc; he'll probably do backflips.

And you really should ask him/her about the stimulation.  You're still
healing.

Good luck,

charlie
