limph nodes. The study/my oncologist is banning me from any additional
supplements.

Khan,

I don't know what supplements might be beneficial.  However
I would like you either not to take supplements, or else at least
discuss them with your doctor and tell him if you insist on taking
them.

One problem is that you are undertaking to participate in a
scientific study.  If you don't adhere to the protocols for the
study, you might invalidate the results.  It would be especially
bad if you took supplements and didn't tell the doctor.

This is in your interest as well as in the interest of the study.
If you take a lot of supplements and they help you, both you
and the doctor won't know if the benefit you got was from the
chemotherapy or not.  You won't know, for example, if you
would benefit from a second round of chemo later.

Similarly, if you take supplements and they hurt you (it is
possible that they could by protecting cells from damage
by chemotherapy - thus making the chemotherapy less
effective than it could have been) you might think the
chemotherapy did you little good when, in fact, it might
have done you more good if you hadn't taken the supplements.

I recommend the following course of action.  Ask the doctor
how long supplements will be banned.  It might only be a short
period like 3 months or 6 months.  You want enough time that
both you and the doctors can really determine for sure whether
the chemo helped you or not.  After that, take whatever you
like.

I wish you the best of luck with the treatment.  Please let us
know how it turns out.

   Alan
