Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone knows wether Provenge can be obtained in any other
way than entering a study? My understanding is that it is a sort of
immunotherapy drug that is offered to people for whom hormone-therapy has
stopped working. In a study, where they would be studying the effects of
this medicine, one can be in either a group that gets the drug, or in the
other group, that gets a placebo.
Rather than wasting time by spending months taking a placebo, I would like
to find out if there is a way to get Provenge on my own, from Canada, Mexico
or Europe. Does anyone on this group know of any such possibility?
I would very much appreciate any ideas or suggestions in thjis matter.
Thank you,
Anna

I'm not aware of any other way to get Provenge and would be
surprised if there is one. Beware of anyone in a foreign
country offering it to you. They may just be scam artists.
However the placebo requirements in the studies do not look
as bad as you might think. The two open studies that I found
on clinicaltrials.gov both say that patients on placebo who
experience disease progression will be "unblinded" and offered
the Provenge.

I believe Dendreon just announced that enrollment is complete for
the current Provenge trial. But to be sure the best idea would be
to call the company and find out directly. I'm also quite certain
there are no other legitimate channels for receiving the drug
except through Dendreon's appointed study sites.

Correction: There's still a bit of room in the study. From a
report of a conference today:
Dr. Gold indicated the company will soon hit another milestone.
He reported that Dendreon has "pre-enrolled" 490 men (out of a
targeted 500) in the ongoing Phase 3, pivotal, all-important
clinical trial of its prostate cancer therapeutic vaccine
Provenge. The test is being conducted at 70 sites in North
America and Dr. Gold said, "We'll be completing enrollment very
shortly. And that's a major achievement for the organization."
