Concerned about rising PSA while on Androcur & Triptorelin. Got Onco to switch me from Androcur to Casodex. (50 mg/day) Now concerned about DHT which seems to be rushing away with itself. Last Radio seems to have done something to bone mets pain in pelvic area and I'm off high dose Morphine(Thank goodness) Can walk without a stick and feeling great. I just dont seem to know what's going on. Onco wants me back on 9/Oct/07 for an MRI + bone scan. I'm worriede to hell. PSA at 2=12. Dec 06 was 146 Psa at Jan 07 = 0.1 Psa April 07 = 4.7 Psa July 07 =6.9 Psa latest - not yet reported. I'm gettinmg frightened. > I'm gettinmg frightened. Then why do you go through the horrors of ADT, surgery, radiation, morphine, etc.and not just get to the better place sooner? Last I recall, you have tried most of the hormone treatments, but I don't recall why you quit in January. Was it bcause it wasn't working? Your nodules were discovered after you quit, right? And what about the chemo option? I'm sorry if you've told us these things and I've missed some of it. As to religious convictions, that is probably something best done in private emails. It seems to scare a lot of people here. Suffice it to say that, having the absolute knowledge that we all die, I find it comforting to know about when and of what. Certainly, I would have opted, if I had the option, of a less painful course later in my life, but none of us have much choice in that. I think it spells it out pretty well. 1/2005 Dx PSA 26.5 Gleason 7 (4+3) @Age 61 1/2005 Start Casodex and Zoladex PSA drops to <0.01 AND REMAINS THERE TO THIS DAY 7/2005-8/2005 5 weeks of IMRT and then HDR brachy 1/2007 Rad Oncologist orders CT scan of pelvis because of complaints of pain in both thighs MRI confirms pain not caused by cancer BUT... 1/2007 CT scan of pelvis picks up a nodule at bottom of left lung 5/2007 CT scan of lungs shows 1/2007 nodule has grown and there are numerous nodules on both lungs. 6/2007 Thoracic surgeon removes wedge of left lung for biopsy 6/2007 Path report says 95% chance of metastatic PCa, but she's never seen cells like this before. 7/2007 2nd opinion at M.D. Anderson in Houston. They confirm: mutated PCa, very rare, but seen there 2 or 3 times. Recommendation: have CT scans every 6 weeks and watch for change. At that point start chemo and will survive for 22 - 24 months thereafter. I never heard of mutated prostate cancer cells and it sounds like your PSA is inconsistent with the gravity of your condition. I said that discussing it here may not be the best option as it offends others here. I also said we can discuss it privately. Recommendation: have CT scans every 6 weeks Huh? I had radiation, IMRT and Pd seeds in late 2004, and 8 months of Lupron. PSA fell to < .1. Late 2005 it started rising. Early 2006, my PSA began climbing fast, incidental CAT scans and MRI's picked up "something" in my chest. We track PSA and scan my chest repeatedly. March 2007, Cardiac surgeon went in for a look see and the final Path report said Prostate Cancer in my chest lymph nodes. Both the Rad and Medical oncologist said, "I've only seen this 2 or 3 times in my career." Both shook their heads the same way and muttered about how it's supposed to hit the bones first. 3 months of Casodex and 2 shorts of Lupron and my PSA dropped like a rock. At 5 months it was .6 down from 61. I go in for more tests and another Lupron shot in a couple months. > and watch for change. Prostate gland size is down about 40%. Avodart is a bit more potent than Proscar, targeting both T and DHT, but also has a slightly higher risk of minor side effects (swelling of the breasts, etc.) I have no idea whether Avodart will be helpful in your situation, but assume it's a low-risk option to discuss with your MD.
