Just thought I'd pass on the results of my personal research.  I have
been on anti depressants twice in my life.  About 10 years ago I was
on Zoloft and currently am on Efexxor.  Current depression was from
having prostate cancer and the side effect of erectile dysfunction.

As many or most of you know, the SSR anti-depressant drugs tend to
interfere with sexual function and in particular with the ability to
orgasm.  Both times I have been on these drugs I have definitely
noticed they have that effect.  In the most recent case, I had not had
a decent orgasm in over a month and they were very hard to achieve.

My recollection from 10 years ago was that if I stopped taking the
zoloft just for a couple days that I would then be able to have a very
good orgasm.  So I tried it with the Efexxor.  I didn't take it for
two days and last night FINALLY had an orgasm worth having and didn't
have to work like hell to have it.

So if any of you are on an SSR drug and are having orgasm issues you
might try laying off the drug for one or two days and seeing if that
helps.

I think Welbutrin (sp?) is not supposed to have that effect. Stopping and
starting an antidepressant is not a good idea.

Unfortunately, Welbutrin does have that effect as well.  My daughter is
on these drugs for seratonin deficiency.  But Bev, you are so right
about stopping and starting these types of drugs......not good at
all!!!!

007.....speak to your pharmacist or doctor and do NOT try that again.
If you get sudden dizzy spells that bring you to your knees, you will
know why.  I would assume that is caused by your blood pressure
dropping.  I saw my daughter go thru that due to a very stupid doctor
telling her to stop them cold turkey.  The pharmacist knew better!!

Glad to see you back on here, Beverley.  Missed you.

Cheers....Heather

It shouldn't, it's not an SSR.  But not everyone responds the same to
these drugs, that's why most people wind up going thru 2 or 3
different ones to find one that seems to work.

I have started and stopped all sorts of drugs and never had a problem
with any of them.  Maybe it's just me but I think the whole issue of
starting and stopping is vastly overstated but there will always be
some cases where it is a problem.

Wellbutrin isn't an SSR, that's why it doesn't have that effect.  Many
people say it actually improves sex.  I tried Wellbutrin for a while
but it didn't seem to do much of anything for me for the depression or
the sex.  I didn't "stop" the anti-depressant, I just forgot to take
it for a couple days.  It's not a big deal.

Don't mess around with these drugs without constant medical
supervision. Two examples:

My brother-in-law, a doctor, took himself off of his SSRI and then a
few weeks later prescribed a fatal dose. His suicide note did not make
up for his loss.

I have had great success with a small dose of Celexa to fight seasonal
affective disorder. I have no side effects, probably due to the small
dose. It has made a big difference in my mood since the diagnosis and
makes me sunnier in the dark months.

Exersize also helps - a lot!
