I am two weeks post op today. With regard to continence, I feel I am
progressing fairly well. In the day time I have minimal leakage (an
odd turn, cough or sneeze) and as long as I get to the bathroom at
first urge I'm fine.
At nighttime, I seem to awaken approximately every two hours to
urinate. In spite of that frequency, I notice that I am saturating a
diaper a night which requires a 4AM change.
I'm curious as to what others have experienced as a timeframe for
achieving a dry diaper on the overnight.
Thank you.

Paul,
I seem to recall that I leaked much less overnight than during the day.
Something about a prone position and gravity, I assume. Are you drinking a
fair amount of liquids late in the evening, perhaps? That much leakage along
with the getting up every two hours seems like a lot.

I'm trying to curtail my liquids after say 19:00, we'll see if that
helps.

I've been dry while lying (notwithstnding a few accidents over my first
year) or sitting since my surgery, but am still far from continent
through the day at 308 months post RP.
But, again, two weeks means nothing unless one is dry then and my
experience means nothing to another person.

You are doing well Paul and are ahead of the curve.
Keep it up. :-)

Well...which is it? 38 or 32? I suspected 308 was carrying hyperbole a
little too far :-)

I don't know why that 38 showed up; I canceled that message literally
seconds after seeing "38" flash by as I hit SEND. Obviously cancellation
doesn't work. The right number is 32 if 24 + 8 = 32.

Yeah, the "38" message is still up on my server. The time stamp shows 18
minutes between the "38" message and the "32" posted correction.

Kind of unusual. Most guys are dry at night due to gravity and
plumbing geometry. Most are dry sitting due to pressure on various
parts of the urethra. I've been dry at night since day one although I
leak rather profusely during the day, up to three pads/day, and I'm at
48 months post op.
Do you sleep on your stomach? I sleep mostly on my side/stomach and
don't drip. Two weeks is very early in the game so I wouldn't worry
about it for some time yet. Also, stay away from that 4-beer
nightcap. :>)

Interesting, I'm almost bone dry during the day. I sleep inclined on
my back. Also, it's been awhile since I had a nightcap of any kind :)
I'm looking forward to consuming a few cold ones when I feel
everything is right.

Hello, Paul:
I was sleeping through the might fairly soon after I lost the
catheter. But I was waking up a little wet for awhile. I sleep
mostly on my back and my side; I think that helps.
When did your catheter come out?

The catheter was removed on 6/22.

Paul,
I had my RRP in August of '03. I was worried about what would happen
when my catheter was removed but when the nurse filled my bladder,
told me to hold it and then took it out, I had the biggest grin. I was
so proud of myself. I only wore a pad once and that was that same day.
I practiced my kegal exercises daily for about two months.
The only problems (hesitate to use the word problem) I experience are
occassional leakage when I bend over or squat wierd; but at no time
have I ever been embarrassed. I think my leakage would be similar to
what a woman might experience.
Practice you kegal exercises - they are really important. Pretty soon,
you won't even think about it.
Good luck.

I hate to say it, Paul, but I never wet a diaper while laying down; though I
wore one just in case for two weeks.

Don't hate to say it, I'm glad for you and everyone who enjoys such
results. The fact of the matter is, before I was even diagnosed with
PCa, I was always poor at cutting down my stream (always a little gas
left in the nozzle). I'm hoping Kegels are the key for me.

Hugh's post about Flomax struck a chord. I'd been taking Flomax at
10PM as part of a 14 day regimen and I wonder if that is what's giving
me my nightime continence issues. I guess I'll find out because last
night was day 14....
