Liz,
A friend of mine with severe, galloping cancer (PSA 500) went to
Dr. Myers after failing hormone therapy. He was very pleased
with Dr. Myers' treatment. The good doctor spent several hours
with him, went over all of his test results and gave him second
line hormone therapy that may keep him alive. The treatment
was far superior to what he had been receiving.
I think you and your husband will be pleased with him.

I think some of Dr. Myers' ideas on nutrition may not be mainstream,
but I can tell you this: Everybody who has gone to see him likes him
and he has good credentials. I am going to give you an excerpt from a
thread that was in PPML (see acor.org) a PC mailing list, just a few
days ago. Dr. Myers is very popular with the PC online community.
*However, I strongly urge you to get another, more "traditional"
opinion from a medical oncologist or two as well. I don't understand
what you would want with Dr. Katz? He's a cryosurgeon. Explain! My
husb is dealing with a rising PSA after surgery and I may be able to
help you with some ideas.
Good luck,
Leah
PS: You may not know this, but writing in all-caps is considered
"screaming" online and rude, so try to avoid.

"J,
For what it may be worth, let me second L's proposal re Dr. Myers.
I visited with him today and was very impressed by both his
extraordinary
intelligence and imagination. His recent book can only suggest how
much
experience, judgment and accessibility he can bring to bear on
dissecting
and understanding the peculiar array of symptoms that each of us
presents. (One operational note...his office is almost adjacent to
the
Charlottesville airport.) C.

hi, i think i'm writing to both of you not sure.
thanks for your responses.
first sorry leah for all caps. i have visual perceptual problems as
well as being lazy i see the caps better than all lowercase.
we have been to an oncologist who recommended eb-radiation. he spent 5
mins. with us after we had waited 3 hours in an examining room.
we just got the patient profile to fill out for dr. myers and then an
appt.
i just feel drawn to him. i have somewhat of a medical background i'm
an occupational therapist and feel this is the way to go.
as for dr. katz i had read his book and have a friend who highly
recommends him. also thought he used some holistic approaches in
treatment but realize myers must be at a much higher level? anyway we
will be going to him officially as we have been accepted and see what
he says.
thankyou both for your kindness.

I see Dr Katz along and a more traditional Oncologist, both at
Columbia Presby Hospital.. I use Dr. Katz and his staff for
complementary treatment and the medical onc for traditional hormone
blockade. I had surgery six years ago and my PSA started to rise
(went to 68 with a doubling time of under two weeks) one and one half
years ago. I am in a support group where a number of members see Dr.
Katz. He has been able to control their PSA for some time. Most of
these guys are pretreatment (WW), but he does seem to have a positive
effect on their PSA. If I were in your situation, actually I am in
your shoes, I would take both the traditional and the complementary
approach. It isn't a bad idea to see both Meyers and Katz.
By the way yes Katz is a cryo surgeon, but he is also a complementary
med guy. He is chair of the Dept of Urology, complimentary Medicine
Unit. He has not recommended cyro surgery for any of the guys in the
support group, although he does perform cyro.
There are some additional resources that I have have just started for
advanced prostate cancer survivors, and yes with a psa after surgery
your husband is an advanced PC survivor. However it sound like it is
not aggressive and depending upon his age and health with some
additional therapy he may still be able to stop it, but you do want to
respond while the PSA is very low. You might want to sign on to
Malecare's listserv for advanced pc - if you are interested let me
know and I will send you an invitation so you can sign up. Also there
is a blog at http://advancedprostatecancer.net and if you are in the
metro NYC area a support group for APC and their families. Let me
know if you are interested I will get the information to you.
I would see both Katz and Meyers.
