We often see and comment upon the great sacrifices of the ladies.
Here is a November 2006 abstract on that little-studied topic:
Couper J, et al.
Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne, St. Vincent's
Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
"Psychosocial adjustment of female partners of men with prostate cancer:
a review of the literature."
Last sentence: "The literature suggests that partners report more
distress than patients, yet believe that patients are the more
distressed, and the focus of concern of patients on their sexual
function is not shared to an equal degree by their partners."

Isn't that just like us????
Risky behaviour, motorcycles, downhill skiing, scuba diving, working
with chainsaws are fun.
On the sexual side, we're a tad more worried about, "will I get any"
than they are.
-kh of course, there are exceptions.

The literature ingnoranuses overlook one truly basic fact: we're all
different. Some guys live or die by their erections, others don't. Some
wives are happy to be bothered way less often, if at all, by randy
husbands; others want it bad. Some people, male or female, are worriers,
others are not. And on and on it goes. I suspect it's very important
that each onc evaluates each cancer pt and partner individually rather
than use statistics to even tentatively classify pt and partner. I don't
think it would take a psychological exam to beat the accuracy of
statistics on this topic.

Edited a little, this is probably as good a summary as one could ever
expect to find. Congratulations to IPF.
