From Bob - 22 Mar 2007 13:08 GMT i saw my pcp physician yesterday, my total cholesterol was 132 mg/%, LDL - 64 mg/%, and HDL was 45 mg/% he told me to stop taking the Zetia, but to continue the Zocor 40mg, this is great. I have been eating very little red meat, maybe once a week. Eat mainly fish, and some chicken. The exercise also helps, do 35 minutes daily on treadmill at YMCA, will attempt to increase this to one hour daily, as i do very little else in the way of exercise. Shame that i do not get credit for reading, as this is my major daily activity :))
However, weight gain of 15 pounds, due to previous lupron, continues to be a problem, perhaps incresing the treadmill to an hour a day will alter this ?
Plan on taking the new vaccine ( Zostevix) as preventitive for Shingles (Herpes Zoster) . Note that the vaccine cost is about $200, and is NOT covered under medicare.

I tried a hiking trail which I decided was dry enough after a wet Winter. Going down some steps made of railroad ties (forming probably 12" treads and 12" risers, I was like an old man grabbing at the rail walking almost sideways. Two years ago, I could run up or down the stairs. Dammit!

Two years ago, I could run up or down the stairs. Dammit! That, plus its dubious benefit in my case, were major factors in my ADT decision. I'm sure I'll re-examine the whole picture if and when I actually get PC again.

Two years ago, I could run up or down the stairs. Dammit! This hits home with me because as an avid inline skater, I would bang out 12 or 15 miles like it were nothing. I'm wondering if and when I'll be able to do that again after this is all said and done with :(

Uncle San would rather pay outrageous treatment bills AFTER the fact.

These are covered, per the Medicare website from which I copied and pasted the list:
“Welcome to Medicare” Physical Exam Cardiovascular Screening Screening Mammography Cervical and Vaginal Cancer Screening (Pap Test and Pelvic Exam) Colon Cancer Screening (includes Fecal Occult Blood, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, and Barium Enema) Prostate Cancer Screening (PSA) Pneumococcal Vaccine Diabetes Screening, Supplies and Self-Management Training

Dunno whether the "pneumococcal vaccine" is the same as flu vaccine. Do know that my monthly flu shots are covered by Medicare.

Steve......the "pneumonoccal vaccine" is NOT the same as the flu vaccine, but it is covered. I found this on the site you gave......
quote....... Yes, Medicare Part B will pay for the pnuemococcal shot and you can get the shot anytime during the year. Generally speaking only one is needed per lifetime after the age of 65. For patients at high risk and persons with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, you should consult with your physician. If you are advised that an additional vaccine is needed, Medicare will pay for the service. unquote....
My father had this when he was in his mid-80's and it was only given once to protect him. He still got the flu shot every year. We started getting it too in order to keep him safe. (flu shot, I mean) And hey......it works!! I am still getting it every year and never get sick at Xmas with that damned influenza!!
Heather Well damn.....just realized my copy & paste shows that the official US Gov't. website made a spelling error. (VBG) They leap out at me as a rule. Drives me as nuts as it does the authors that I correct. (G)

(BTW, thanks)

Drives me as nuts as it does the authors that I correct. (G) I just love it when I catch some bureaucrat -- or especially a reporter -- messing up my native language. I write from time to time to the managing editor of my local newsrag about fundamental English errors. He long ago gave up responding. Also won't see to corrections, the arrogant twit. His name, believe it or not, is "Randy Lovely." Really.
Heather: please send me a private message with your address. I have an invitation for you. No, it's not commercial nor pornographic. Not even sensual (sigh).

It is very likely to be approved by Medicare and HMOs soon, now that the government agencies recommend it. My bout with shingles wasn't fun, and weakening its next case, if any, is worth the effort.
