Just checking in to report that it has been 10 years today since my
surgery.  You can check old posts for my history.  My PSA was 45+and
Gleason scores 6's, 7's and an 8.  After three years a rise in PSA and
started on Lupron (and for 3 years Casodex).  At my last appointment
my PSA remained at <0.1.  I see my doctor for another 3-month shot in
April.
I am 78, married for 56 years, two sons, five grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren.  We enjoy travel and will be going to Switzerland
for the 7th time.  Last year's trip took us to Russia.  I swim half a
mile or walk two miles indoors 6 days a week.  Each anniversary is
just like a new birthday.

Happy Anniversary Dick Winters.
Enjoy your trip to Switzerland.
What is Switzeland like?
Do you go in the Spring Summer or when?

Hello, Dick:

Congratulations on your tenth anniversary.  I hope I get to post
something like this in nine years.

As you can see in my signature, I have been put on Casodex since you last
checked in.  I am extremely interested in your PSA reduction after they took
you off Casodex in '03, as you can imagine.

Thanks for checking in.

At a regular check for PSA it had gone up to 0.6.  My doctor said to
discontinue the Casodex and to have another PSA test in one month.
The result was and continues to be <0.1  I don't understand why. I had
5 pills left and he said not to throw them away as we might need it
again later.  It didn't hurt my feelings at all because the Casodex
was very expensive and at the time I had no drug coverage.  I don't
know what it would be on Plan D, but I have a friend who gets his
drugs from the VA and they do not cover it.

Hi, I am happy that life is treating your right. I am "much" younger
than you (71 1/2)  :-) and a widower. I travel far and wide, but do
not feel as good as you seem to feel.  Maybe it is just my depression,
age, singleness, or stupidity, but one thing I miss is sex. You did
not mention that and others who have commented on Lupron treatment
seemed to do the same. They seem to be content with no sex interest,
no libido. I am not. More than once I have said to myself and even
doctors that I would rather be dead than have a dead sex life.

A month ago, under protest, but semi-voluntary, I took Casodex for a
week and then a Lupron shot.  This is about 5 years after having my
very own prostrate cancer operation ("we got it all" said the surgeon/
urologist) and seeing my PSA go back up from 0 to 11 over the five
years. The problem is that my PSA testing score was starting to go up
a little more rapidly. A few years back, an oncologist told me not to
worry about a 3 or 4 PSA as it did not mean anything much without
physical evidence of more cancer. Despite three bone scans and three
CAT(?) scans with all the radioactive dyes and so forth, no cancer has
been found anywhere in my poor old body. The oncologist took a job
elsewhere so I had to rely on the urologist and finally agreed to
accept Lupron, although I hate it because it makes me depressed and
uninterested in almost everything, including sex.

However, I do have some "interest" in sex. I would say it is mostly in
my brain, not penis, but I am wondering if I should try appropriate
remedies for the ED I have now and have had for years.  I am single
and do have the opportunity for sex, if I can (1) get beyond the
psychological problems associated with using a pump or TRIMIX shot and
(2) and these things will not only give me an erection, but I will
have enough libido to have a good time with a non-regular partner like
a girl friend or wife, of which I have neither.  I would like to know
I can perform before getting either.

Right now I am relying on "mind over matter" to keep my brain
interested in sex, but don't know how long that will work.  Can I
assume that it won't work for long and pretty soon sex will really be
a distant memory. Maybe I will not even remember to remember that I
can't remember sex?

This post is probably disjointed, just like me, but I do respect
opinions of most (spammers/scammers excluded) on the better USENET/
Google forums. Thank you.
