Dear All,

[I borrowed the following from theYahoo PC group.  The woman who
posted it is Kathy Meade, and so I want to give her proper credit.
She is a PC widow who is a godsend to the PC community.  She posts a
lot of great articles and gives good advice.  Thank you, Kathy.]

"There have been no studies that show that hormones do cure men and
the medical community considers it palliative care but I had one
doctor say that there are some men who live man years with hormone
therapy and in fact maybe taken off hormones and do not have a
recurrence. It is not true with most men though unfortunately".

As Kathy says, in unusual cases, a very few men do not have a
recurrence after stopping ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy).

One such man is Doug Adam whose story is here http://www.yananow. net/
Mentors/ DougA.htm.

*Although he was a young man when he was diagnosed in 1991, he had a
Gleason Score of 5+5=10- as high as you can get. He had surgery,
radiotherapy and hormone therapy.

In his latest update of his story he says:

**"After stopping all treatment in 19th August 1998, my PSA is still
less than 0.1 ng/ml and I am in good nick apart from increasingly
creaky bones! I was diagnosed in 1991 so after 15 years, that is a
great result andI pray it continues!"**

There are no guarantees in this life - certainly not as far as
prostate cancer is concerned, but stories like Doug's show that there
is often life after diagnosis. I am sure we all hope that your
father's results will be as good as Doug's.

Best to you all.

Leah

Realize, of course, that there is no implication that ADT cured him.
Many doctors, including mine, routinely prescribe ADT following surgery
or radiation on high-risk patients, just in case. *Many* of their
patients have no recurrence, ever, after ceasing ADT.

As a Catholic, I think it is very likely the cure was from prayer and a $10
bill.

I offered my doc a $20, but won't know whether he delivered until about
15 years pass.

Regardless of what cured his cancer, this is a real good example of
every man and his cancer being unique. No matter what the odds are,
there are extremes, exceptions.
