I haven't posted here in awhile. I got my latest PSA results today and
it still hovers around 0.08. It has been 2 1/2 years since my RRP and
my previous 6 month PSA readings have been .03, .08, .06., .05.
My urologist speculates that he left a sliver of benign prostate cells
when he did the RRP and I should continue to have these readings ad
infinitum. He was right in his previous prediction that I would regain
full erections after two years (with the help of Levitra). I am also
fully continent. PCa has turned out to be just a bump in the road per
Dr. Walsh.

Sounds Great!
Seems like you are on the right track.
Yes, 2 years works....
Actually, work hard, use the pump, try injections..
It all helps...
Viagra, and Levitra.....work...but after a bit.
Good Wishes to you.
Love your wife and family...

That's great news, Jim. Thanks for coming back to let us know.

I was told by a radiation oncologist (as an argument for radiation)
that a surgeon cannot be certain that he removed all of the prostate
tissue.
I don't know how common this is, but I'm sure it's not unique. I
speculate that if this sliver does not contain viable cancer cells,
then you are in good shape. However I would think it would be
wise to keep monitoring PSA every six months, or even every
four months. If the PSA does creep upward, you can blast it
with radiation.
I suggest that you have no sex and no digital rectal exam for at
least several days prior to each PSA test, so that you won't get
a false high reading.

Alan, what is tha rationale for your advice? No sex and DRE may be
advisable
IF the prostate is still there, if it has been removed, then no sex
means and
DRE doesn't make sense as there is no prostate fluid or physical
prostate to
be probed. The OP had RRP didnt he?

I guess the question of whether or not he has a prostate is the
question at issue here. The doctor said he thought some
prostate tissue may have been missed during the surgery. If
that is so, I'm thinking that that tissue might be functional and
might express more PSA after sex or DRE than otherwise.
That might not be the case, but it might be a good idea not
to test it.
