Beverley - 14 Dec 2006 19:54 GMT Okay, we got the new number of hubby's PSA test. Ta-Da! Zero.
Phone conversation between me and some nurse.
"Zero?" I asked. "Yes, zero. That's very good." The nurse replied. "No, it's not, it's zero what?" "It's zero" "No, it should read zero point zero something. Are you saying that last decimal place is zero?" "No, it's just zero." "Okay, let me ask you this - are there any decimal places? Do you see a point in front or behind that zero?" "No." "Are you sure because Dr. L said they would return it with two decimal places." "No, it just says zero." "Are you sure?" "Yes, it's just zero." "Okay, thank you." GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! It was not her fault but darn! Hubby is now scheduled through his rad-onc in Richmond for a repeat of the test next week. We want to see more than just zero. Shaking her head and wondering why, Bev
Beverley - 14 Dec 2006 21:06 GMT Richmond just called - we do not need the test repeated. Rad-Onc doc looked the test results up on the computer up there. The test result was 0.00 as low as it goes. Darn nurse! Okay, I'm dancing on the ceiling! LOL Bev

But an indicator to others of not putting too much stock in tiny .01 blips in results. There is PSA in your husband's system---produced by another gland (I forget which). The ultra-sensitive test did not pick it up.
Beverley - 14 Dec 2006 22:33 GMT I should have clarified that - it's as low as the testing equipment can detect using two decimal places.
:-) Bev

Joe Price - 15 Dec 2006 16:17 GMT Wow! If the brachytherapy folks are looking for a poster boy, they need to go see you!
Merry Christmas.

Darn nurse! > Okay, I'm dancing on the ceiling! LOL > Bev Beverley - 15 Dec 2006 23:09 GMT No, they need to see Dr. Michael Hagan at the Massey Cancer Center, Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. Hagan is also at the McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
When they say Hagan hasn't had a failure they mean it. I've been told by several doctors that the lower the PSA goes the odds of PC returning keep dropping. Sure seems as if the have nailed it. I'm planning on keeping my wonderful husband for another 25 years or so if we get that lucky. I just hope I never see the day his PC returns or any cancer for that matter.
Brachytherapy does work! Bev

Beverley - 16 Dec 2006 16:56 GMT Um, three decimal places wouldn't be accurate, maybe you could put it in as <0.01 Bev
