I received some real good advice, regarding my psa velocity, from this NG
and in May posted the results of my biopsy indicating gleason 3+4, and one
core containing 5% prostatic adenocarcenoma.  My psa was 3.48.  I chose
external beam radiation and continued having sex and lifting weights during
the 41 treatments at Kaiser in socal.  My psa in October was 3.09, so it has
turned down.  My doctor says that I will be having my psa checked every 6
months for the rest of my life.  Right now I couldn't be happier that I did
not go the surgery route.  I am 66 yr and single.  I chose my path and we'll
see what happens.  Thanks again.

Good going.  I'm guessing that since they didn't give you Lupron, you
have no side effects.

Could you confirm that?

Pee'ing works like before?

Erections like before the treatment?   Semen production probably off a
little but who's measuring.

Orgasms - check.

Let us know.

My Internal Medicine doc "suggested" that IMRT alone might be right for
me but both my Uro and Rad-docs thought that with my PSA at 10 and
Gleason (4+3) albeit in only 5% of one needle, that more aggressive
treatment was called for.

In my case, this was "confirmed" by the MRI that showed more cancer
than the biopsies.

I know you weren't asking me, but I'll offer my update.

I was PSA 13.8, GS 3+4 and rad onc recommended against HT.

Seeds (iodine) implanted 10/23. Had 9th of 35 IMRTs yesterday.

So far, peeing is good. Slow if I don't workout, but better if I do.
But still haven't had to use Flomax.

Erections suffered for the week after seeding. Doc said swelling was
probably the cause. Guess he was right. They're better now than before
seeding.

Orgasms were slightly painful for a couple of weeks after seeds, but
are fine now.

So far, so good. We'll see how the next five weeks of IMRT goes but, so
far, it's just a minor bump in the road.

The doc told me Tuesday I'm getting 1.5 G of radiation per day. He said
the peaks within my prostate will ultimately get 250 G's. That ought to
kill the bastard.

Right, no Lupron.  I have one side effect, there is a change in my rectum
that requires more trips to the bathroom per day.  Instead of going once
during the day, I may go 4 times.  The peeing part had no change.  The
orgasms are a little better now than before; but during the radiation it
burned when I had orgasms; but I just let it burn.  My girlfriend confirmed
that my semen is back to normal. The biopsy messed that up for a while.  My
radiation doctor told me to keep having sex. He told me to take Viagra
everyday during the radiation.  I used Cialis instead.  I didn't take it
everyday, but enough so that I could tell it was doing the job.  I always
used trimix; so there was no change there.  Good luck kh.   Til
