I am reading some guidelines for an healthy diet for prostate cancer
and came across this, regarding lycopene intake: ¾ C tomato sauce.

Can someone please instruct me to the meaning of C?

Many thanks.

It is my understanding that tomato juice has a similar amount
of lycopene as tomato sauce, and it's probably easier to take
a cup of juice each day than sauce.

Or eat watermelon which has even more.

Dear Just--

Sure, it sounds like cup but since tomato sauce comes out of a can
maybe they mean can.  You never know.  (saves a step to pour it
straight from can to recipe).

You sound like a real virgin in the kitchen and I am LOL because I just
remembered  an episode of the three stooges in which Moe, Larry and
Curly are hired to cater a fancy meal and they throw everything into
the recipe -- including the cans.

I 'm not one to talk since i practically need a gps to FIND my kitchen.
I graduated from  "How to Boil Water" at New School Adult Ed program
about 15 years ago but it just didn't take i'm afraid.

I have no idea how to prepare tomato sauce.  Can spaghetti sauce do the
same thing? (Does it have to contain a certain ingredient?)  Also what
about drinking tomato juice instead?

My biggest problem in this dept right now is that JJK won't drink his
pom juice.  He seems to lack some instinct for self-preservation
because one thing i have never heard is a man refusing to drink this
elixir.

[I just noticed the previous post by AM about tomato juice. I am
thrilled to hear that.]

As weird as this sounds, is it possible for a man to develop a
psychological resistance to drinking pom juice.  You see, as far as JJ
is concerned this pca problem doesn't even exist.  He is a denier by
nature.  When i first mentioned pom juice to J he was astounded : He
said, "the pca is all over with.  What's the point of drinking it
now."?  Naturally i am worried because of his 4+3.Gl.

Thanks,

Leah

Sorry: this accidentally posted twice.  A stray flick of the finger did
it.

I also wonder about the necessity for a prostate cancer fighting
diet since my treatment seems to have (so far at least) worked.

But I'm trying to eat healthy anyway.  I drink a glass of V8 every
day and I take vitamin supplements.  I'm probably fooling myself
but, as long as I don't overdo it by taking more than recommended
doses, I don't see how it can hurt.  We know that a certain
percentage of men who seemed okay after treatment will develop
recurrent cancer later on.  I don't want to be in the percentage or,
if I am, I want it to happen later rather than sooner.

As for pomegranate juice, I don't know if this works as well,
and don't really know if pomegranate juice really works at all,
but you can buy cheap pomegranate extract capsules.  We
get them from Puritan's Pride.

Do you mean to help avoid getting it in the first place, or keeping it
from coming back after you've been treated? I'm sorry to say that you can
eat as much or as little of anything you want, but it's not going to change
a thing.
