catheter and staples out

I promised an update following my radical prostatectomy, which was 2 weeks
ago today.

The surgical staples and catheter were removed today. I recollect a posting
a while back questioning how much pain is there during the staple removal.
Well, about 2 hours before my appointment, I took one Vicodin. The Rx was
prescribed following the surgery in case I needed it for pain, but I never
had any pain following surgery that 2 Tylonol every 3 hours did not take
care of (pain really was a 0 the whole time) so I am left with a full bottle
of Vicodin. Removing the staples (21 of them) was little more than a pinch
for each one. I was probably more aprehensive about what it was going to be
like, than hurting from anything.

Removal of the catheter was hardly an event. The nurse connected the 2nd
opening of the catheter to a water filled drip bag, passed in a cup or so of
water until I felt the urge the urinate, had me take a deep breath, then
exhale. As I exhaled, she pulled out the catheter. I barely felt it come
out. Then she gave me a container to urinate in. That was earlier today, and
I have been drinking water ever since (want to keep the acidity down). Been
to the bathroom 3 times already.

Now let's see how my 1st night is. Regards to all.

Hey Roy,  Glad to see you are on your way to recovery.  Paul, my
husband is scheduled for the Robotic surgery in November.  I hope you
have a good night.

Seems you are doing well. I've heard quite a few of the guys say when they
pulled the cath out they managed to urinate on everything within a 4 foot
radius!
