Don't go jump on the pomegranate bandwagon yet. Just read in a
Consumer Reports "On Health" issue that pomegranate juice can lower
blood pressure in a similar fashion to prescription ACE inhibitors and
should be avoided by those taking these drugs. Add in a dose of viagra
and blood pressure goes through the floor. Pomegranate juice also
inhibits at least two liver enzymes that metabolize some medications
(several antidepressants, AIDS drugs, and some narcotic pain relievers)
resulting in unhealthy levels of these medications. As is always the
case, there's no magic bullet that fits all.

Pomegranate extract is available in capsule form, which MAY avoid some of
the unwanted contraindications of the juice with other medications. It
certainly avoids the sugars and carbs with which the juice is loaded.
Whether the capsules are as effective as the juice is a different question,
but I gulp two or three a day under the "can't hurt" umbrella.

I've been drinking R.W. Knudson pure pom juice made from concentrate. Can't
say I like the taste at all. The curious thing about it is that the
concentrate is imported from Iran. Figure that out. If our relations with
them deteriorate anymore, should I risk drinking it? :-)

I buy a brand called Lakewood. I get it at Whole Foods Market. It is
not only NOT from concentrate, it's also organic. I think it tastes
pretty good. And, as I've stated before, it tastes REAL good with
tequila.

Doesn't everything?
