Brian, many years ago I broke my leg and crushed my ankle. I was in hospital
for 3 months, and for a lot of that time I was getting 6 hourly penicillin
injections, and they hurt like hell ! One night the nightshift nurse (I
should have married her !) was most suprised when I told her that I hated
having the injections because they hurt so much "Don't they slap the area
first ?" she said.
What she did, she wiped first the area to be injected, then the fingers
of her free hand. Just before she inserted the needle and injected, she
gave the injection site a good slap - just a sharp, quick slap - then she
stuck the needle in. I felt nothing, and I have insisted on the same
procedure since then - when my kids needed vaccinations for instance.
It was some years later that I developed a theory why it works (not sure if
it's correct ;-). The slap "fires" the nerves in the area, and there is a
short time before they are "reset". This short "reset" window is when the
injection should be given.
Try it and let me know if it works for you (no patent fees apply !!!!)
regards.....Rob

I began in 1988 and was sysop of my own system -
the 9-1-1 BBS 1991-2000. These days, from SoCal,
I still frequent two systems - 1 in Florida, the other in
Virginia....with no phone toll charges. Both are free
but accept donations. I have access to all FidoNet
echoes, netmail, e-mail, and all usenet newsgroups.
