My husband had robotic surgery with nerve sparing October 15, 2005.  He
has some erectile function but right now we have sex using trimix and
our sex life has never been better.  It lasts a lot longer and the
erection is so hard you don't have to worry about any "power
failure".You can have sex in a languid way and do things at your own
pace because the erection lasts so long.  You can even have an "encore"
sometimes with the use of only one injection. Also the erection is so
reliable -- I come back for some fun exactly 12 minutes post-injection.

My husband had some soreness once but that was it  A bigger problem was
priapism but that is resolving.

I told my husband that if guys new what kind of sex they could have
post surgery they would be lining up to have it.

Of course, all this is from a women's perspective.

Leah.

My general impression is that often women have much less problem than
their maile partners after treatment for prostate cancer.   Men
shouldn't fear that they won't be able to satisfy their wives after
treatment.

Leah, your husband is a lucky man.

Good to hear. I hope the cancer outcome was good as well.
Obviously, the main down side about trimix is, the needle.
Most who try it, are very satisfied. As you are approaching
the 1-year mark, it might also be worth seeing how he does
with viagra alone? Patients can experience some recovery
even as far out as 18-months after surgery.

Where did he have his daVinci robotic Prostatectomy (dVP)
done? (just curious..)  Glad that things seem to be working!

Dear Dr. Yew,

Thanks for the kind words. My husband had a robotic prostatectomy at
New York Hospital-Cornell..  So far his PSA is undetectable thankfully.

After the surgery he was put on viagra 50 mg daily.  He was having
problems with ED but had some erectile function (maybe 3/4).  After
about six months he consulted a well-known ED specialist who told him
that the Viagra is only "a gift to the drug company" and that it
wouldn't do anything for him so he stopped taking it.  The doc gave him
trimix which we have been very happy with.  He is not squeamish about
injecting himself  and anyway it turns me on to watch him doing it!

My concern is that his "natural" erectile functioning seems to have
diminished since he's been on trimix and stopped taking viagra.

Does anybody have an opinion about whether a person taking injections
for ED should also be on viagra or its equivalents?  We would like to
do whatever we can to encourage his "natural" functioning.

Also, has anybody noticed their balls shrinking after surgery.  My
husband's scrotum looks like it's too big for what's in it.  But maybe
its just my imagination.

Thanks,

Leah

Your husband's ED may be different from other's, but this is the first time
that I have heard a doctor just dismiss the value of Viagra.  It certainly
helps me, and I have read no reputable research that indicates Viagra is of
no value for ED.  Quite the contrary, research indicates that it helps many
(but granted, not all.).

Claude--

The doc was not dismissing the value of viagra at all! For some reason
he felt it wouldn't work in this situation.  I think he is dead wrong
and am going to get a second opinion.

Hi Leah,
So glad to hear your hubby is doing well.

PC does effect both the man and the wife/partner, and sex is a normal part
of that life together. I think many men are afraid to use something such as
trimix because they do need to inject it. My husband has started to use Muse
a similar drug in pellet form. In five to eight minutes he's got an erection
that is quite satisfactory and lasting, without the headaches and other SE's
of the pills.

I agree that the female perspective is different, but they do this for us as
well as for themselves.
