Hello all..
I was wondering what the interest level would be in a moderated
informal online
chat session, like an online prostate cancer support group? At the
beginning, I
would moderate, along with a friend of mine who is a surgeon on the
east coast.
We both primarily perform the daVinci robotic laparoscopic
prostatectomy (dVP),
but I would eventually like to invite guest moderators from radiation
oncology,
medical oncology, nutrition experts, etc.. Any suggestions as to
format, days of
week, times, topics would be appreciated. I will keep you posted.

any condition without face-to-face consultation with a qualified
health-care provider. Thank you.

Seems to me to be a fine idea.

Dr.Yew should know that there are other PCa chats.

One is that of the self-styled guru of PCa, Don Cooley, of whom the less
said the better.

Another is the UK-based Forum for Free chat at
http://www.forumforfree.com/chat/
It is based upon the UK-based Prostate Action Forum at:
http://p4.forumforfree.com/index.php?mforum=prostateaction
There is an international chat on Saturdays (western hemisphere) at 2000
GMT, 2100 BDT.

There is also the Association of Cancer Online Resources Prostate
Problems Mailing List (PPML), which despite its often-dictatorial
moderators can include useful information. If they permit it.

I would be delighted to participate in a chat on PCa, especially one
that provides an opportunity for a free and unfettered exchange of ideas.

Although Dr. Yew is a surgeon and urologist, I'm pleased to see that he
would invite other specialties to participate.

Lastly, I recommend that Dr. Yew look into the prospect of participating
on the UsToo! site, Patient to Physician (P2P). Presently, it is almost
singlehandedly supported by medical oncologist Stephen B. Strum. He
needs help. The patient website is: http://www.prostatepointers.org/p2p/

I'm unsure how Dr. Yew, if he is interested, could arrange to be a
medic-participant, but I would be delighted to help.

Steve J

We all have our quirks and shortcomings.  Through my own experience and
reading comments from others partipating on his discussion list (of
well over 1,000 men and women) Don has done more to help those with PCa
than most.

This chat is the same as Don's.  I am one of the facilitators on this
list.  99+% of the posters pass their messages directly to the list
with absolutely no intervention; the posts of a few people are reviewed
by the facilitators.

Steve, your judgements about others serve no purpose.  Such personal
issues are rarely as absolute as you make them out to be.  You often
bring valuable information about PCa to this group.  Why not leave it
at that and omit the personal commentary...ron

Cooley pretends to give medical advice. For that reason alone he is
dangerous.

Untrue.

Oh? Recently, as Ron well knows, I tried to post an homage on PHML to my
dear friend and mentor Ralph Valle. It was censored and did not appear.
What is Ron's excuse for that?
> Steve, your judgements about others serve no purpose.
Yes, they do. They serve to warn others about the Posting-Nazis on some
of the sites.
> Such personal issues are rarely as absolute as you make them out to be.
Rarely, perhaps. But in this case well-taken.
> You often bring valuable information about PCa to this group.
Right. That is the ultimate purpose of whatever remains of my life.
> Why not leave it at that and omit the personal commentary.
Because I have been censored due to the fact that I will not submit to
the dictates of such as Ron and his twin, Charles Clausen.

Does Ron (or Charles) have any idea what this means?

Correction. I replied to Ron Levin:

My aborted attempt to compliment Ralph on his survival achievement was
on PPML, not PHML.

I'd be glad to participate in such a group, Dr. Yew.... and I appreciate you
offering to lead it!

I would check some of the other chats out first and see what they are doing
and how well they operate.

Evenings would probably be best but then you'd have to find a time that is
early on the west coast but not too late on the east coast. You could try an
evening and then try a Saturday or Sunday morning. Do it on Tuesday one time
and Wednesday the next. There is no perfect time for everyone!

Also you might want to consider if this is going to be a man to man group.
I'm accepted out here because I've been here for about 5 years but a female
presence might make a few men clam up. OTOH there are women who are trying
hard to find information for their husbands/partners and this would be an
excellent opportunity for them.

I think it is a good idea.  I am new to this site and my husband is
scheduled for biopsy on Sept. 7th.  I am willing to learn all I can.

I said I was new..I guess 3 months is not too new any more.  It is hard
to beleive we have been dealing with this that long and still don't
know anything.  The waiting is taking its toll.
Anyway, as I said I would be glad to participate and I guess evenings
would be best for us.
