dave481 - 20 Aug 2006 00:59 GMT My primary physician gave me a prescription for Cialis Thurs. 08/17 and said to take one a day. Last night, in the shower I had my first post RP erection. It was a puny one, but was wrinkle free and valid. It stood about 10:00 o'clock. It was also very painful. It felt like my penis was getting acid poured on it. The skin felt like it was either getting ripped or chemically burned off. Did anyone else have this sensation upon recovery? If so, any tips? I'm almost afraid to take todays dose!!

John Loomis - 20 Aug 2006 01:59 GMT How old are you? Hello David. When did you have RP..... It takes time for nerves to heal and erection to come back. If you have not had an erection for so many days, and months, the first one is going to scare you! Are you sure you were not helping the sensation with soap, and or such that can cause burning outside......hum.... I know Viagra works from the inside out........ I believe Cialis also. Any outside burning may be related to use of soap or other when stimulating. Keep trying, use oil, encoourage, do not discourage. You have great signs of a comeback.... Just guessing, John Loomis

Last known erection on or about 03/10/06 It was under warm water but wasn't touching it until it showed some"interest"? No soap at the time. It didn't exactly scare me, just wasn't sure what to do with it. I don't think it's been that size erect since I was about 11 years old. I stepped out dried off and the pain started. But, thanks for the help and reply-:)

But I was using a pump, and I had started out gradually. I also tried Viagra with no effect until some 18 months after surgery when I started getting weak erections helped significantly with Viagra. My guess I that the tissues are just not used to it, and it will go away. But ask your doctor about it.
By the way, when you say 'no nerves spared' presumably you mean the surgeon made no effort to do so. If the nerves had really been cut, Viagra should not help you produce an erection. Read one of the books about prostate cancer---say Walsh or Scardino.

If the nerves had really been cut,
> Viagra should not help you produce an erection. I don't think they left any. It sure didn't seem to be the intent before the RP. I didn't ask because at the time I also had a colon re-section and with the ADT. Surgery assault and all, frankly, haven't cared much. I wrote more to Ron B, above. I am single, and I don't I would have attempted intercourse if a partner had been available. I was mainly just trying the Cialis to see if it went anywhere, in say, a week. Well, there was a result, albeit a small penis, bur erect just the same. I hope this keeps working. Thank-you for the reply. Every bit of info helps me physcologically.

First...'10 o'clock' is pretty nice. :-)
Then...Steve K. is a regular Krusty the Clown, isn't he? :-)
(Cute 'spicy food' joke)
Next...5 months is a VERY quick recovery time for erections...especially with no nerves spared.
I question that comment...maybe you meant that the nerves WERE spared?
I know the drug works on the smooth muscles of the penis...but with no nerves...it seems great.
And...EVERY day for Cialis seems like a lot.
Its a 36 hour pill and...to increase blood flow...I was directed to take one...every OTHER day...for the 16 months or so after my open RP..(3/05)...and with a pump and 'manual work' :-)...I see some improvement...but no '10 o'clock' yet :-)
Your original comment about pain...I'd have to agree with the other guys...that the tissues are just not USED to it...and it will become less painful.
Keep 'up' the good work.

dave481 - 20 Aug 2006 20:50 GMT Hi Ron, I have decided that every day is alot for Cialis. It gave me a headache and a stuffy nose. I'm sure your right......the tissue has been definitly unused. I wasn't even trying......tried a VED but that was painful and without results as far as I could tell. No, I don't think any nerves were spared, had 9 peri-neural invasions on the biopsies. The samples were 12 for 12 positive with Gs of two 10's, six 9's, three 8's, and one 7. the uro said it was too advanced and aggressive to leave nerves. The pathology on the prostate itself (after removal) showed a 9 Gleason as well. My GP DR. just had a friend in his 60's that had good luck with the Cialis treatment and asked if I wanted to try. Viagra had not helped me except it did seem to enlarge my penis, but only acheived, what some members here called, "stuffables".
Steve K. has ripped many a laugh out of me....thanks Steve.
Ron it was good to hear from you, I hope all is going well-:) David
