I watched and got a Lupron paper to fill out for a Court Hearing.
I was given Lupron Depot, 3 month horse shot...Ouch.
It really screwd me up.
My billing was 1500.00 for one shot.....
I was planning for Radiation, got the shot, and decided to seek other
venues.....
I cannot believe how long this whole affair takes....
I was diagnosed in 1999.
I had Lupron Depot same time.......
I had Rp/  Thank Allah, or God, or the sky!
I am alive, see this Lupron trial, and such, and send in my facts.
I got a check for 750.00....Today. Yes, 750.00 dollars...
What is the matter with our health system, and why did I have to fill out
paperwork, and such and get a settlement....
I feel like holding a party, sending to prostate cancer research, or buying
beer, and bbque......
I admit, I am tired....just wondering...

TAP Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Lupron, paid one of, if
not _the_ largest settlement for price gouging of any drug
company.  I believe they paid 825 million dollars.  Your
$750 came out of that.

One of TAP's tricks was to give free samples to doctors
with paperwork that looked like the doctors had paid for
the drugs.  The doctors then billed insurance companies
and patients, and Medicare for administration of the drug,
making it look like they were just recovering the cost
charged to them by TAP.

Alan, they gave me *Eligaard*, which I think is Lupron, according to
you guys here at ascp. They charged the insurance co. $1500. Getting RT
now,(22 down....18 to go). Is the Eligaard useless? If so would they
pay me or the insurance co?

Thanks
David

Eligard works.  It is a similar drug to Lupron and Zoladex and,
as I understand it, is about equally effective.

TAP wasn't sued for producing a useless drug, but for illegal
pricing and payment scams.  I don't know if the makers of Eligard
and Zoladex are doing the same things or not.

It is interesting that the entrance of two more "competitors" into
the field has not brought the price of any of these drugs down.
It's still very much "your money or your life" in the drug business.
There is no regulation in the U.S. (there is in virtually all other
countries) that limits the price of drugs.  So we often pay double
or more what people pay in other countries for the same drugs
made by the same manufacturers - who seem to be making good
profits in those countries at much lower prices.

How's it going, Dave?  By 22, I was having some minor bowel problems.

Hey Steve,
Going well. Had some rectal pain, but they gave me Proctofoam, two
days off, and it's all but disappeared and four applications.
Coincidently, since the Proctofoam I've been 100% continent, still wear
a light pad "just in case".  And it's only been 5 days so I'll see.  It
feels sometimes like I'm going to have "wet fart" , please forgive
crudity, but so far that's just been a sensation and not an actuality.
I'm hoping to be back at work (the real job) by the second or third
week of Sept.

Great   to hear from you Steve

In the interest of accuracy, please note that the correct spelling is
"Eligard." One "a".

Eligard is leuprolide acetate, as is Lupron. I'm unsure of what the
difference is supposed to be, but suspect that it has something to do
with the difference in dosage as between Europe and the USA. But won't
bet on it.

I have taken Eligard for two years. The main difference is that it is given
in the arm instead of the hip. The consistancy is thinner. One of the
difficult things about Lupron is that if you are skin and bones, it is real
hard to give whereas Eligard is not. One otehr benefit is that hot flashes
are not as severe. I went from 10 a day to maybe one and most days none.
