I'm having my bone/CT scans next Wed. Assuming they are negative
(please God, make it so) I'm planning to have the prostate removed by a
da Vinci surgeon. But I've been a little curious about HIFU.
I'm planning to go to Detroit around mid-August to talk to Dr. Menon at
Herny Ford Hospital. It occured to me that Toronto, the only city in
North America doing HIFU, is not to far from Detroit. I'm thinking I
might go through there before coming home just to talk to the people
there about this technique.
Does anyone here know much about it or the SE's.
Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "new" but if you type in HIFU into the
search box for this group you'll get around sixty or so posts. One
member of this group had it done a few weeks (months?) ago and has
posted his results. It's a pretty new technique as you know and new
techniques may or may not be as good as the old standards. Cryosurgery
for instance has worked well in the hands of some doctors and has been
a huge disappointment (disaster?) in the hands of others. We would all
be interested in what you learn in Toronto. Good luck with all this.

I have read a few "testimonials" from patients who had HIFU in
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which is still part of North America.

An acquaintance of mine had the procedure done a little over a year ago
in Puerto Vallarta. The medic was Douglas O. Chinn, MD, a urologist who
is based in Arcadia, California.
The acquaintance had only a partial procedure, for a reason of which I'm
uncertain. He did have subsequent problems and had to undergo extensive
ADT. His Gleason was 4+5=9.
Dr. Chinn is primarily a cryotherapy practitioner, according to what I
have seen on Google. I have no way of knowing how many HIFU procedures
he has done or his record.

PING: HIFU Mike, who has posted progress reports here subsequent to a
recent procedure. Mike seems to be a pioneer in this and is almost OT
to the groups hard-core RP enthusiasts/ self-appointed Moderators LOL

I don't know much about HIFU, but I believe it is being
used in some places as a backup for failed radiation
patients. In other places (France especially?) it is being
used as a primary treatment.
One possible concern for you is that your local doctors
might not know enough about it to be able to offer
informed follow up care if you should need it.
