I've gotten great help from the group in the past, now I have a couple more
questions.
I'm 58. Based on a slightly rising PSA (with one inconsistent high reading),
eventually to 2.8, I had a biopsy in April, part of a clinical trial of
directed biopsy -- along with a regular biopsy at the same time.
The pathology report described 14 specimens, it appears 4 were from two
directed biopsies, others were left base, mid, apex, upper and lower
transition zone, same for right.
All were benign, except the right upper transition zone prostate biopsy:
described benign tissue with mild inflammation with focal chronic
prostatitis.
I also believe my prosate was about 30 , units ?, which would make my PSA
density about .09
I wanted to give myself a little time off, but it's hard not to think of
next steps. I"m planning on seeing my internist in late August/ early
September for a repeat PSA. My understanding is we'd have to wait six
months to do another biopsy, anyway -- hoping we won't.
Also should add I saw a urologist in November of 2005. DRE was normal.
As ever, advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ed

Sounds like a nice case of simple prostatitis, and hopefully it will be
managed and you'll never see prostate cancer. You are doing the right things
and diligently watching your prostate health. That's good. Prostatitis is
not a precursor to cancer, thank goodness.

Are you still on antibiotics? Wasn't it antibiotics that took you down to
1.9 in November?
Ed Kratz - 11 Jul 2006 01:56 GMT
Steve,
I only had a week or so of antibiotics that got me to the 1.9.
After the 2.5, I had six weeks, then had the 2.8 and the biopsy.
I'll see what my PSA is August/September and take it from there.
Thanks,
Ed

You seem to have been studied fairly extensively with nothing found. If
your PSA continues to rise, you might ask you urologist about the use of
a free PSA test to see if further biopsies are merited.

Leonard,
Thanks. I'll go for the free PSA is my PSA continues to rise. Am also
considering Fred Lee in , I believe, Michigan.
Thanks again.
