Letter to Kimberly-Clark

I emailed you folks once before complaining about your new Depends
Guards for Men that came on the market, at least in my area, in January
of 2006.  They have a reduced extra absorbent material area resulting
in less urine containment.  You assured me they were the same as the
old but anyone with a ruler can see otherwise and users know all too
well that the new pads are inferior to the old pads.  The extra
absorbent material is the same length but not as wide so there is urine
leakage out the sides before it migrates to the end of this material
with the result that a change is required long before the pad is full.
If I may be a bit graphic, "yellow tail" is what us users call a full
pad where the tail end of the pad contained urine.  With the new
narrower design, we rarely see "yellow tail".

In your last correspondence you assured me the new ones had the same
absorbency as the old, and you were nice enough to send me coupons.
However, please don't insult me again with the same old "they're the
same" blather.  They're not.  Also there is no need for more coupons,
I'm switching to another product, something not manufactured by
Kimberly-Clark.

Thanks for hearing my rant, and please forward this email on to your
clever bean counters/designers for what it's worth.

Hi Dave:
I recently switched to the CVS store brand of guards.  They seem to
work fine.  Not all that much cheaper than the Depends Guards, but
there is some savings.
Yesterday I read an article that was actually about the Duke rape
situation, but in there the author made mention of the skewed
priorities of our capitalist  economy.  Everything is for profit, and
in the process quality is often a victim.
Better get off my soapbox before I draw fire.  Hope you are doing
well.  I am having to change 2-3 times per day, even after the implant.
Not very happy about that.  Called AMS about it and they just fed me
canned bullshit.  Told me "a lot of guys have that problem at first"
and "wait a year and it will get better".  Sure.  More corporate BS,
and I see I am back on the soapbox.  Sorry.
Have a good holiday.  Take care.

Hi David S.,

Glad to hear from you although I'm sorry the AMS is not operating as
advertised.  As I recall, there was some mention of installing a second
cuff.  I know you're a bit burned out on surgeries but is that
somewhere in your future?

As for the pads, I'm going to do some research and see what else is out
there.  Poise is also manufacture by K-C so they're out and one store
brand caused me some irritation "down under".  I went to a medical
supply house about a year ago to get a walker for my mother and noticed
they have washable underwear that is good for "mild leakage" whatever
that means.  I'll give them a try too after I return from a visit to
Maryland to visit grandkids, etc..  That's assuming I don't wash away
in the floods.

Also, feel free to soapbox.  My letter to K-C was the second of the
day.  I sent another to Home Depot after my umteenth frustration where
waiting in line to check out takes longer than finding the stuff.  On
at least a few occasions I've just left a shopping cart full of items
in the aisle and walked out.  I hope it costs them more to pay someone
to put all my things back in their proper places than it does to pay
another checker.  Off to Lowe's and OSH.

Got a labrador puppy.  Good grief, she's a handful.  More bother than
any of my children as I recall.

Take care,
Dave Perry

HD told me they have a hard time finding cashier applicants who can make
change. Even if the register tells them the change is 47 cents, trying
to select coins totaling 47 cents apparently challenges today's U.S.
high school graduates.

And to think half the country wants to RAISE the minimum wage and
encourage this nonsense.

We did, too, and agree. Our older dog chose its highly descriptive name:
PITA.

I had one try to give me twenty dollars in change for a ten that I
handed over.  And yes, I did point out the error and left with the
correct change.  Some tell me that was dumb??

If you really want to challenge them give a bill, like a twenty for a
twelve something charge, coins greater than the amount needed, e.g.,
two quarters for $x.42, and the correct amount of pennies.  That really
throws them.

High School grads!?!?!?!?

I started working in a gas station at 13.  I had a coin caddy on my hip and
folded cash in my shirt pocket.  I figured change in my head!  We all did!
Almost every night, when I cashed out, my cash was accurate to the penny.

I run hot and cold on the subject of more surgery.  The AMS 700 is
still a possibility, although a slim one at this point.  If I could get
the two doc's, who call one another "partner", to do the surgeries at
the same time then I might consider having the second cuff implanted
for the AMS 800.  But right now I am hoping to use my vacation time for
something more pleasant than recovering from surgery.  :))    But I do
leak each time I get up or sit down in my chair at work.  I can feel
the squirt.  Just drops, but they add up over the course of the day.
The chair is padded.  There is nothing unusual about it.  I imagine my
problem is a combination of factors.  First, the uro told me he would
have used a small cuff if he had one, but the one that he used is the
smallest that they make.  My urethra must be a lesser diameter than
normal.  Second, my natural remaining sphincter just does not work
right, and by that I am referring to nerves.  During the cysto the doc
told me it looked normal, so I do not think there is any structural
defect.  After the bladder neck resection I was filling up a Guard
every 2-3 hours. That was bad.  Going through 2-3 pads per day is
tolerable, but....

If you get a chance send pic's of the new puppy.  We will have
Buttercup three years in August.  We guess her age to be around six, so
the vet says she is entering "middle age".  She also is on a diet.
Needs to lose about five pounds.  Well, I may have lost a prostate in
August of 2003, but I did gain a new friend.  ha.

Take care Dave.

I've found only one jockey short liner/pad worth a nickel. Displayed
with all the other diapers and such are Tena's "Serenity for Men" pads.
They're triangular in shape, wide where they need to be wide and narrow
where they need to be narrow. FINALLY, I have an alternative to diapers
during hot weather.

Thanks I.P., I'll look for them.
