Hi,
I just had ten biopsy samples taken and they use cream. Now, I felt like
going to toilet but as I was walking home, I resisted and went later on.
Could this toilet pierce through the holes created by biopsies and cause
infection in stomach or bowl area?
What precautions should I take? I am travelling tomorrow overseas?
He felt my prostate gland, there were no nodules or signs of cancer.
Ultrasound pictures also show clear.
But PSA is 7.2 for the past two years. One time it was 69,5 and I had high
fever. It was infection and antibiotics solved the problem. PSA dropped
22, 11, 6 and now 7.2. Sometimes I get difficulty of passing urine but my
medicine Cardura (4 mg) helps it. I also use garlic and it helps too. Any
other suggestions?

Hi, Rajinder,
All I can tell you is our experience about the biopsy and stools.
Steve was give 5 days of Cipro, which he began the day before the
biopsy, and so took it four days after the biopsy. He was also told to
take stool softeners for a while. I think that was just a precaution.
Normal stools probably are no problem, but hard stools can tear
membranes. I would be concerned about holding a stool too long, also,
because it tends to become dryer and hard. If you can ensure soft
stools for a while, that would be good. And maybe think about
antibiotics, or at least protective foods like garlic.
I have never heard of complications from the biopsy. Well, there is
blood in semen, and for some, in the urine. This goes away. Also, his
biopsy was painful for a long time. It felt like he was sititing on a
golf ball. I think he should have take ibuprophen for several reasons,
and it would have speeded healing. But I don't think he did.

" I felt like going to toilet"
Didn't they have you do bowel prep prior to the biopsy? I believe it is
common practice in the U.S. to stop eating after a point in the
preceding day and give yourself an enema the morning of. There
shouldn't be anything left in there. I suppose the cream was novacaine
gel - lucky you.

Your doctor should have prescribed for you Cipro or some other strong
antibiotic.

If I were you I'd call my doc to ask these important questions. We're all
nice guys here, well most of us are, but what do we know? He was there
poking you, and could put you at rest in a minute.
