Hello All,

The day has come....

Thank you for all your help, I have been reading the posts since Dec.
2005.  I will have my surgery on May 10 @ USC.  Because of your advise:

- I got an opinion from a second Eurologist and ended up chosing the
eurologist who gave me the 2nd opinion, who was recommended by the
radiation therapist and the oncologist.  I talked to four professionals
(2 euros, an oncologist and a radiation therapist) before reaching a
decision, all of us agreed on the course of action.

- Took a bit of extra time in deciding as the harmone shot brought my
PSA down from 30 to 1.4 in 2-3 weeks.

I used the recent "list" to go shopping this weekend.  I am now
prepared with

- long basketball type of pants (with zipper on the side!)
- pamper wipes (unscented of course)
- will have a black leather recliner when I come home
- have lots of organic soups in the pantry
- Netflix : upgraded to a 3 movie plan
- Cable: upgraded to "expanded" basic!
- light street hikers as I plan to walk a lot as soon as possible
- books/magazines neatly piled up
- Haircut: hopefully today

Thank you once again!  I will write back as soon as I am able to.

I extend my very best wishes to you.  You didn't say (or I didn't read it)
whether you have chosen retropubic (nerve-sparing) or perineal surgery, or
even cryosurgery (called "surgery" today, although it wasn't when I had
surgery performed).  Retropubic surgery will almost certainly require a
hospital stay of several days; with perineal surgery you should be able to
go home the following day.

I look at it as possibly extending my life a few more years.

I was given strict instructions, clear liquid food, such as broth,
jello, anything you can see thru, 24 hours before.  No liquids or food,
not even water after midnight.  My surgery was at 0730.  I was fine
after the big event and had no problems.  I went home 3 days later with
two JP drains and the big bag and a little sore, but not bad.  Follow
instructions at the hospital before release as to changing and cleaning
the bag and tubing. You should have no infection problems and in about
two weeks it all goes away including the staples.  Good luck and when
you feel up to it, walking will help.

Follow your doctors instructions, they should have a prepared
instruction sheet or guidance of some sort.

Good luck to you, MAP....

In a few days you will be seeing the best site possible.... the hospital in
the rear view mirror of the car as you are being driven away.. ;)

Hang in there.  It only gets better!

All the best and I hope that surgery will be performed by an
experienced urlogist not eurologist :)
