I had an ultrasound (pelvic, not even rectal), the doctor said he couldn't see any cancer.
Will an MRI do a much better job?
I'm in pain here...

I have been told by my doctors that MRI's have a higher resolution than
ultrasound. However, if you have pain in your prostate, it is very likely
not due to cancer. One of the big problems with prostate cancer is
that it doesn't hurt in the early stages and people often don't know they
have it until it has metastasized all over their bodies.
You may have prostatitis, which can be very painful. It might be
caused by bacterial infection, by calcium or other mineral deposits,
or by some other irritant. If so, sometimes it goes away by itself,
sometimes it responds to antibiotics, sometimes it responds to
massage or to saw palmetto.
This doesn't mean you don't have cancer. You can have both
cancer and prostatitis. You should have been given a PSA
test. If the results were abnormal, then more looking for cancer
is warranted.
Is your doctor a urologist or a general practitioner? If he's a
GP, I suggest that you ask him for a referral to a urologist.
Bon chance.

Julien,
Why do you think you have prostate cancer? Or might have it? Please
post your test results (PSA, DRE) and any symptoms related to PC.
Thank you,
Laurel

Urination problems sometimes.
Pain in lower back, hips and left thigh.
Erection problems.
Pain and inflammation after sex.
Pain all the time, even after a bomb course of Noroxin (did good, eliminated almost all symptoms for
some time, except the PAIN.)
Good news is, DRE nothing, PSA 0.9, Ultrasound nothing (25~cc prostate).
Allready took all kinds of antibiotic and anti-inflammatories. Quinolones do good but only while I'm
taking. Probably not realy a bacteria problem. Ordered some Proscar and Flomax. Will try a little
(separately, of course). Maybe associate the Flomax with a Quinolone. Over a year ago I understood
my prostate was allergic to testosterone, just 3 or 5 days of pills would allways give me massive
inflammations (strange?). Maybe the contrary (Proscar), will work. When inflammed, the vascular and
nerve flow through the prostate is challenged, ED and numbness of the penis.
Maybe an MRI will see better than Ultrasound also.
