Hello, I'm 37, a while ago I posted my first worries with ED and said I thought I had some hormone
deficiency.
I took some Andriol and 2 days later was COMPLETELY impotent with a numb penis. At the 5th day I had
an inflammation that couldn't leave the bed, obviously I stopped the andriol, and took Noroxin
thinking of bacterial prostatitis. I could urinate all the time, so, I guess it was not that
serious, but I was seriously impotent. The Noroxin did away with the inflammation and I suddenly
recovered my nerve and vascular functions of the penis, it was a powerfull feeling. For two days I
felt like a 15 year old sexually, and the following 2 months, not as good but still very well (while
on Noroxin). 3 weeks after quiting the antibiotic my partial ED came back and the prostate
disconfort that I've felt for some years now has become a permanent sort of pelvic pain. The pain
has been present even during my brief best periods, although very mild and away.
Right now, my doctor says I have nothing, the echosound showed a normal prostate, my psa is 0.9,
blood is normal and no bacteria detected. I'm on a non steroid anti inflammatory, who seems to be
wearing off in effect day after day.
I would appreciate very much some comments from you guys about this. And also some answers to the
following questions, if you know...

To get rid of the pain and (associated?) mild ED, I'm thinking of trying out flomax or finasteride
to relax my (tight?) prostate?
(Testosterone doesn't seem to be an issue. Am I allergic to it?)
Maybe start cipro or noroxin again with flomax or finasteride?
Should I definitely NOT try finasteride? I'm looking for better nervous and blood flow, finasteride
or flomax may do that?
Don't comment on Viagra or Cialis yet.
Could I have some injury not detectable on the ultra sound?
I have no bladder, penis or testis pain whatsoever.

Finasteride also known as Proscar, will shrink your ptostate and REDUCE
your libiado (sp), however may make your hair grow.
Flowmax and hytrin are both alpha blockers, and help you urinate, often
used for an enlarged prostate. The other drugs i am not familiar with,
but would suggest getting competent medical advise, instead of self
treatment ??/

Excellent advice.

Noroxin (I looked it up) is an anti-bacterial drug.  If it termporarily
cured your ED than I would think that either 1) your ED was caused
by some kind of infection, or 2) the Noroxin had no effect on your
ED but feeling better in other ways gave you a big psychological
boost.

My personal view is that we should take powerful drugs only when
we have a good reason to believe that we have the condition they
are designed to treat.  "Maybe this will help" doesn't impress me
as a good reason.

The instructions from the manufacturer of Noroxin say: "NOROXIN
should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven
or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria."

Did your doctor do a urine culture, white blood count, or any other
tests to establish that you actually have an infection?  If you don't
then taking noroxin or other antibiotics can help kill off useful
bacteria in your system while helping to make other bacteria in
your system more drug resistant - without doing you one tiny bit of
good.

I suggest the following:

1. If you're being treated by a general practitioner, ask if you
can see a specialist, i.e., a urologist.

2. Ask your doctor (whichever it is), to do some tests to find out
if you have an infection or not.  It's not always possible to tell, but
it sometimes is and if they find a high concentration of some
particular bacteria in your system they'll be able to quickly find out
what the best drug is to treat it.

Prostatitis is difficult to treat.  Some cases seem to be
caused by bacteria and can be treated by antibiotics.  Many
cases do not respond to any antibiotics and may not be caused
by infection.  A good urologist may be able to guide you as to
the best course of action.

I've suffered from time to time with prostatitis.  It can be painful.
Mine did not respond to antibiotics.  I started taking saw palmetto.
A couple of months later, the symptoms were gone.  However I
have no idea whether the saw palmetto helped or whether it went
away by itself (very likely I think.)

Good luck.

Julien,
Maybe you should consider another doctor who will track this down with
you.
