On Wednesday at noon i was admitted for Palladium Seed implant. When i
went to the hospital registration desk, they had my last name
incorrectly spelled & an incorrect social security number, my insurance
company would have been delighted.
The seed inplant was to be done under epidural anesthesia, i requested
that it not be administered at Fourth & Fifth lumbar because of
arthritis, the anesthesiologist agreed, when i got on the table, he went
directly to the L4 & L5, that i was afraid of, the pain was
excruciating, after 5 more attempts he succeeded at a higher level. I
was then given some intervenous medication that knocked me out
Awoke in the recovery room , where with great difficulty i urrinated &
catheter was removed, Ten minutes later i developed left upper chest
pain (sticking type pain), felt that i was getting a coronary. Blood
enzymes and EKG were normal, although my blood pressure was high 150 /
90. They decided to keep me over night for observation.
Very difficult night with extremly painful urination. Catheter was put
in again, and i was discharged (Thursday) at noon with a leg bag (lovely
experience);
Although i have the catheter draining the urine, i get urges to urinate
(spasms) with the catheter in that are extremly painful.
Taking Cipro 500mg twice a day, Flomax 0.4 mg at bedtime. hytrin 10 mg
twice a day, phenazopyridine 200mg, three times a day, proscar 5mg day
Taking hot baths that offer some temporary relief.
Spoke to Urologist he suggested that i might want to remove the
catheter, but cannot give me any assurance that the painful spasms would
stop. Thinking about removing catheter on Sunday, and will see Urologist
Monday morning.
Will this nightmare ever end ??????
PS- They knocked my back out of wack during the procedure, so i now have
back pain in addition.

our doctor gave steve oxybutynin and it worked great but you still have
to watch the coffee intake (irritates the bladder). also he felt a
little foggy, I couldn't tell but he sure could once he was done with
it. do any of those things you're taking relax the spasms? the
phenazopyridine *I think* is just for symptoms/pain? isn't that the
otc thing that turns your pee orange?

anything to relax the spasms.

he still has to manage his bladder spasms (after RP 8 weeks ago) mostly
by minimizing coffee.

Re: Coffee and Tea, is the dcaffinated type o'k ??
Is cranberry juice of any value ???
Bladder spasms continue to be severe, also had several bowl accidents,
This is much more than i ever expected, it is making me crazy.

You have my sympathy with the bladder spasms. I stayed one extra night
in the hospital after LRP and I'm glad I did because that night I had a
spasm that redefined my upper limit of pain. At least in the hospital,
the morphine was nearby. Never had anything more except a twinge or
two but I can imagine what you're going through. My doc gave me some
meds to relax the bladder to help with the spasms but I never needed
it. I can't recall what it was and maybe you already have some. Hope
this all goes away soon.

I just asked him his experience. With coffee, he can feel it after
half an hour (bladder spasms). Now he can drink coffee if he eats
first. But he is very recovered now, plus he only had one-time RP, you
have ongoing seeds. He didn't try either decaf or acid-free coffee but
those might help. He does not drink tea so we don't know if it would
have irritated his bladder. He said that oxy-whatever was a godsend.
He has and continues to drink a LOT of cranberry juice. That one med
the dr gave you, and cranberry juice, are both helpful to the bladder
in different ways. So try it also.
you can try a search for "interstitial cystitis".

www.ustoo.org has local support groups, maybe meeting with other guys
will give you some insights how to manage this plus insights into your
local medical people. that website lists phone numbers so you can call
the local guy and he would know who has dealt with this. (plus keep
posting, I am just suggesting an additional tool for your toolbox here.)

Hi Bob.....
Phone your doctor and ask him about Ditropan (prescription
strength)....I take that for bladder spasms. I wasn't sure if one of
the other drugs you are on was a variant on that one. (oxybutyanol, I
believe is the generic spelling of Ditropan)
Best....Heather

Not to be a drug pusher, but do you have vicodin or something that is
an actual pain reliever? It seems like, if you could just get
near-total relief for one time, then maybe you could manage it so it
doesn't rachet up again to that level.
I always thought that seeds took a while to have SEs.

Ouch! And brachy is supposed to be relatively painless. Sounds like you're
hittng every negative possibility.
