9 months post RRP at Stanford (Dr James Brooks).
Latest PSA still "undetectable: < 0.05".
ED is still very much an issue but we note occasional step-wise
improvements. I can get a (just) stuffable erection without any pills,
but it is transient (doesn't last long enough), and there is not enough
sensation to make it worthwhile. Unfortunately, all kinds of pills seem
to disagree with me (my BP goes very strange and I feel like death). I
now have a vacuum pump (Augusta Medical/Osbon type, battery powered)
and that works well (once pumped up, the sensation level is good),
though I find the tension ring uncomfortable.
Continence (which was excellent from the day the catheter came out) is
improved since my last report. Previously I would lose one small drop
maybe once a week, usually when yawning; now I can't even remember the
last time that happened, despite a few very late and somewhat boozy
nights. This may be better subconscious skills rather than any
physiological improvement. I wasn't that bothered previously anyhow.

Hello Peter,
I am also a patient of Dr. Brooks. You know....
John Loomis 1999 RP age 49
It takes time, and it took me 2 years to get willy, wily...
So, keep practicing, and that does not hurt.
I have not been able to re-up my viagra prescription with Dr. Brooks
since I live 250 miles away, and I was getting those on a regular yearly
basis by phone and fax, and he said this year I need to come in to see him.
Anyway, If I can I will, and so far now, I am on my own....
The pump hurt me with the rubber band thing......ouch. It even left a
"dead spot" that has improved. Taking off the rubber bands always took
pubic hair too. not much fun.
Anyway, the pump is great, injections do work, and Viagra will start to work
when you notice a reaction without anything used.
Seriously. You need some kind of nerve connection,/blood flow/ for Viagra
to help/
I lost one set of nerves, and now feel pretty much normal, and with a bit of
Viagra.....wonderful. John

You might want to trim the pubic hair quite short or shave it off to reduce/eliminate
the discomfort.

I used a pump for 18 months before erections returned. Now I can
sometimes manage with nothing but half a 100 mg Viagra makes it easier.
So you seem a bit ahead of my schedule.

If I may ask, what Brand/type of pump did you use? Any recommendations?
I've been using cialis without much effect and am considering asking my surgeon on
Monday for a prescription for a pump so it can be covered by medical insurance.
Thanks!
KenA

ErectAid Systems Esteme by TIMM
Worked well for me when I finally got the right rubberband.

The pump I have is a Rejoyn that I bought off the net for about $150.00.
The pump itself works fine. My problem is one, the thing is awkward to use,
two the rings are uncomfortable and cause me skin irritation (allergic to
the material they are made of??), and three what I have left after the
surgery is less than a handful erect, so why bother. Add to that the
sensation down there, what I call the "pleasurable feeling", is gone, so it
all is not worth the trouble. Bummer. And the ten dollar pills do nothing
(unless you count the stuffy nose with Viagra).

Excellent news.

If I remember correctly, men who are partially successful
after treatment usually continue to progress. It's the guys
who have no success at all for an extended period (two years
is a number that sticks in my head) that probably won't
get any better.
