They put markers on my nipples and the this time they came back
negative. There is still a "shadow" 7mms big on my lung, but the
radiologist said, in his opinion, that it is NOT a nodule or cancer.
So now it looks like monday is finally on for sure. A RP and a colon
resection. It's amazing what constitutes good news these days. After
all this happens, I should, with aids of course, be able to get an
erection and have an orgasm. I don't, for now, have to wear a colostomy
bag.  Only six weeks ago I thought the only thing in the world to worry
about was a hernia. Then I find out I have a tumor in the colon. Then,
that I have advanced, very aggresssive cancer.  Now, finding out I'll
probably be able to have sex and take a dump sitting on a commode
became some of the biggest news I could hear. Of course that was second
to finding out that the first bone scan (positive) was wrong. Then the
same thing about the lung spot. Life sure changes in a hurry these
days. Priorities shift and I might not be out of the woods, but every
day has become very precious. People I've never met seem to rush to
help with information. Old friends I had forgotten call, stop by, and
the air itself seems sweeter. Politics, what's happening in Hollywood,
the media don't even register in my brain,(truth be told, I don't guess
they did much any way).

Thank-you I.P. Curtis, Laurel, Steve K, Ron, and so many others for the
support y'all use here. Mankind is so much better than often portrayed,
and certainly better for your selfless efforts.

It sounds like you're getting the same surgery I did ... RRP + Right
hemicolectomy (removal of the first half of your large intestine).

I'll be curious to see what kind of post-op diet your bowel surgeon puts
you on. Mine wanted me on a low-residue diet ... no fiber ... yet our
ticket home is a good BM. Guess what BM is: RESIDUE. After a few days
without punching my ticket, I suggested we add some fiber to my diet
(prunes, some veggies and fruit, etc.) and cut back on the low-residue
stuff (white bread, pasta). He finally conceded that I know my own body
pretty well and let me do that. I have no idea whether it was time or
the diet change that produced my ticket, but it sure seems logical that
if white bread/pasta/low-fiber foods constipate us when we're healthy,
why would we want to eat them when we really NEED to loosen up our
bowels a bit.

Presuming your surgery and recovery are normal, your bowel will return
to  normalcy faster (probably before you're free of the catheter) than
your urinary system will. The only bowel hassles I've had are buying TP
in case lots (use the thickest, softest brand you can find, 'cause some
days you will go through a whole roll) and sometimes proceeding from
perception to desperation with bowel movements. If you let your
remaining three feet of large intestine fill completely, you'd better be
near a bathroom.

Make sure you clear that with your colon doc and get LOTS of fluids with
the dried apricots. Prune juice has the fluids right there.

Wish you well David.  Many times these problems turn out much better
than we think they will.  It happened to me three years ago.
